Kind of bummed after I got home from Knob

My opinion is:

If you have been around for a while, you are a big buyer, and you really are a huge fan of the whole Busse scene, why should you have to elbow your way to the front with some dude who just found out about Busse knives and thinks he can turn a profit??

I'm not one of the big spenders, or really into the scene, but I understand the difference.

It seems the feeding began the night before.

Its like being invited to a steak dinner only to find out when you get there the steak has sold out.....:thumbdn:

If you really want to get into it...

I'd love to go to Blade or Knob Creek to get something that I really want, in person, from Jerry, or Amy and the crew, but I don't have a big enough bank roll to buy my way in. You feel me?

Second, I'm not going to try and kill myself, running all over the country, spending money on travel, gas, hotels, to hopefully/maybe get a shot at a knife that may or may not be there, let alone once getting there to try and push and fight my way through crowds of people to buy a knife. Then trying to compete with someone who looks like they got a cut of the 700 billion dollar bailout money, who can just grab whatever they want off the table before you get a chance to really look at what might interest you. I'm money ahead buying from the exchange or ebay..regardless of price. So no cheesecake for me I guess.

All this is not a fault of Jerry or his Company. He has a great product, and I LOVE his blades and the knives that I have. I love hanging out at the small Indy show with Mike and Bob, they are great guys and I have fun. I'm just not interested in these games that end up being somewhat of a let down to the "small guys" who try to compete with the "BIG ONES." Thats all.

HRK, I was only being rational in my first post about the picture of knives, and that some of them may not have been going to the show.

I too agree that if I were invited to a steak dinner and there was no steak left, I may be diapointed a little, then I would eat the chicken, and enjoy the company of friends.

It would not cause me to flip the table and food over onto the floor and stomp out ranting and raving and blaming everyone for eating steak.

I would be least upset if I didnt go at all, and only heard there was no steak.

No, I dont want to get into it, whatever it may be. You quoted me being obviously sarcastic. Sorry for the miscommunication.

If I were Jerry after reading this whole thread I would never post a pre show picture again, talk about a headache for him and his crew.

Well I'm just glad I bought Bank Of America a few months ago at 18.50.

Now I can buy the Urgent Fury Set from Skunk and help him out so he can buy some potatoes to get himself through the winter

I don't get this??? If someone is new it doesn't mean they are a flipper:confused:

I'm going to bite on this and run...

A person who buys and puts on Ebay, I got no issues with. Most of them have a 'reasonable' starting price and expect to potentially make a profit. That process will determine the market value. I have no hard feelings for the high bidder that overpays for the knife.

On the other hand though I'm not fond of one who posts on the exchange looking to get a substantial profit. That's against the Busse family sort of feeling. The people that post a high starting bid are even worse.

There should be and I'm sure there is preferential treatment to certain hogs. There's a level of secrecy in the hogdom that's kinda cool. But not knowing is kinda funny. It would be cool to see some stealth hog come out of the shadows and display their AK and say 'check out what I got, you gotta get to the inside to get a chance at this'

That being said, there will always be people who see something in a picture, get excited, drive 10 hours, spend a night in a hotel, fight to be first in line, not find their knife, and be disappointed.

Who knows, Jerry might even like this thread, it fuels the hogdom secret society and I'm sure more interest has been piqued. :D

Of course not every one who is new is a flipper. I'm trying to say that if you have developed a relationship with Jerry and his crew, of course they might do you a favor and give you first crack at something.

I have never benefited from this type of relationship, but I understand how someone might.

I have been holding off on this thread for a long time, but now must put in my two cents worth.

At Blade 2007, there was a specific knife for sale that a certain uber-Hog wanted very much. What steps did he take? He asked a proxy to snag it for him. When Jerry held the knife up, the proxy and I both yelled '"I'll take it."
(This was before Jerry started tossing them up because it became impossible to tell who called out first.) I think that Jerry was in the process of handing it to the proxy when I reached over and snagged it. I know, "no regrets", but I really kinda stole it. When the proxy told me how the Hog really wanted it, I decided to resell it to him at cost and shipping.

My point in telling this story is to say that, if anyone has the standing to procure a knife early, this guy clearly does. Yet, he asked a proxy to snag it when offered to the crowd at the show!

I really think that the only major advantage that long-time Hogs (and even long-term piglets like me) have is an understanding of the processes and some relationships of trust. I know of no business where this would not be true to some degree.

RonnieBear was one of the first at the booth, so he may have snagged the SK and been holding it before motorhed66 noticed it -- I don't know. I wasn't the first to arrive, but I was there within a few seconds of anybody else in the crowd, perhaps a minute behind at most -- I quick-walked along the back road rather than trying to make my way through the tables. There was no time to have filled out a receipt, but there were no AKs in sight and nobody had them in their hands. I just want to know the rules; I thought it was that piglets and hogs crowd around the trough equally, now it appears that some animals are more equal than others. Jerry gave me hog status, and it's making me mad that some are asserting there are high-hogs and low-hogs.

As I said before, I did very well for myself -- I got to meet talk to the crew again, see some folks from past shows, and meet a couple new people. I had a fine time. I'm just saying that my primary objective when I set out in the morning was that Black & Tan AK, and that neither it, nor any of the other AKs in the picture were there. For me, it was a 30-mile drive to Knob Creek, so I didn't have a lot invested in the trip. However, that's why I'll probably never make the trip to Blade -- my money should be as good as anyone else's, and I don't accept that there's an inner-circle of Hog royalty who deserve first refusal on all the best knives.

When going to a show, having Hopes is good and having expectations of getting a particular knife is not realistic.

Now days "Being on the Inside" mostly seems to mean that some Busse owners call around to sell a knife instead of putting it up on the exchange or Ebay.

Being a Dealer means that you do get first pick of what gets shipped to you.

The question raised here seems to be:

"Were the knives pictured on this Forum actually shipped to and available for sale at the show?"

The For Sale Forum here and calling the Busse phone tree is the main way I buy Busse knives, I do go to a show once in a while, some times I buy there, some times I do not.

While Shows can be the best way to get a real "Deal" on a Busse knife, it is from some one that does not know the value of an old knife, not from a Busse dealer.

As a Dealer, I never knew just what knives would get shipped to me for a big show.

There was a big difference between what I would order and what I would actually see in the Busse Box when it got to me.

Im very new to the Busse scene, since May I have accumulated over a dozen Busse's in all shapes and sizes. I have sold two, a Chopweiler and an FFBM, both at a loss.:barf: The Chopweiler wasn't my thing and the FFBM had standards on it, to small for my hands. If some of the uber hogs get first crack than so be it, they deserve it, I respect people with brand loyalty, ecspecially when that product is made from start to finish in the USA by a great company like Busse. Flippers are annoying, the bay is loaded with them trying to make $100.00 plus profits on knives that were released less than a month ago:rolleyes:, i.e. $400.00 CE's:grumpy:. BTW, I have a super special sage and black canvas micarta Game Warden for $3,500.00, firm, if anyone's interested.:D One last gripe about flippers is this, Jerry knows what's up, Im sure, when I saw the price of the CGNMFBM's I couldn't help but wonder if the price was a bit inflated to stick it to the flippers, although I did see a CGNMFBM for $750.00, needless to say that bastid never did sell it!!!

This thread only bums me out because it will lead to the Boss not posting any pictures and we'll only have hearsay as to what rarities were available. I loved seeing the wall of INFI and would be quite sad if pics like the Knob Creek Sneek Peeks went by the wayside. It'll be just like finding out exactly how many of any one knife was ever produced....A No Go.

Now had I gone for the Pumpkin AK and got there first, legitimately, and didn't at least see who scored it, I'd be bummed out too. But then again, Eric Isaacson got that super cool ZT BM with the custom fighting clip-point on Saturday, and I, personally, would have been equally stoked to have scored it first-off on Friday. YMMV

I agree man ... I love to see sneak peeks b4 shows and ganzaaas :)

In the end these are just knives. .. Its not worth all this drama .. .

Also I agree with other posts saying if a grail knife was so easy to get it would not be a grail knife in the first place... I enjoy hunting for elusive infi .. . My stay here has been good ... No Regrets ... ever .. . .

pay your dues...{like you did this weekend}....put in work and put in time.

Another question: How are you "paying you dues" if you have a "PROXY?"

I get it. If a person is too lazy to put in the work themselves, or "dues" they get someone else to do the work for them.

Its perfectly clear to me now.

I have only been to one Blade show and I did not see any holding back of items or selling before the show. That said it looks like Knob Creek got the better end of the deal at least as far as CG users go. At blade there were only the Comp Hellraiser, Jackhammer and Sarsquach along with the Black and Tan Sarsquach from Busse Scrapyard had the Yardkeeper, Yardhook and Mud Puppy all in Tan.Swamp Rat had Hairy Carry Chopweiler and Crash Rat. Everything else was customs.Knob had CG SFNO, FBM,SH,ASH-1 along with some old school ergo models. Yard had Dog Fathers Dumpster Mutts and Yard Keepers in several colors. Rat had Ratmandus, HC Chopweilers,And couple more different models. That said I had a great time at Blade and will be returning.
