Kitchen KITH 2022

Got the carbon blade finish ground and 95% sanded. Final grind is thin and flexible, should fly through meat. Handle cut down and hierloom fit ready for glue.

Knife is feeling a little simple/plain so may etch it out or have a play with some patina.

I’ve had an interesting few weeks but I think all that’s behind me and I have evenings free for the next 8 weeks so I should be able to get it done. I had planned to profile a bunch more AEB-L and send off for heat treat all at the same time, but realized I wouldn’t be able to wait that long if I wanted to get this one done in time. But I did get my scale options in for the knife:

Curly Narra on left and Acacia burl on right (both stabilized).

With a little luck, I’ll still be able to finish on time.

Sometimes simple is better. Looking good

I wanted to test my knife before starting on the permanent handle, so I sharpened the blade today and cut up some chicken wings. The joint at the wing tip is a bit tricky to find for me and I end up cutting through the little bones more times than not, so I thought this would be a good test for the edge. I had some concerns because the edge ended up a bit thinner than on the previous ones I made. After cutting the wings, I looked at the edge with a magnifier and did not see any damage, and it still cut a page from the McMaster catalog cleanly. I think the knife will work well for its intended purpose.

Handle sanded out to 1k. Really lovely timber, lots of chatoyance. Few coats of wax and a bit of work with some steel wool and shes good to go.

Might have a crack at a saya for it seeing I have a bit of extra time.

The heirloomed scale fit came out great, feels awesome in hand

Acacia burl in my eye!

Those are some great looking knives! You’re way ahead of my schedule. I’m still waiting on blades to get back from heat treating but I ordered some new epoxy, and some Corby bolts plus a counterbore for them. Should be ready to get to work as soon as the blades get back.
