Kitchen Knife Kith - summer 2016 (Sept. 5th Deadline!)

Just a few pics of progress.
I decided to use 52100 because it has performed very well in my kitchen. The design is new for this project...I was trying for a good petty or utility knife with a longish blade.

gorgeous!
love that handle and etch together.

That is looking terrific! Love how you matched the sycamore pattern with the blade etch and the copper details, that is a mighty fine piece!

Will I finish this or will I just keep drawing in more complicated designs? Who knows! Seriously though, I finally have something I feel like will be awesome! I think this knife is really bringing me closer to something more my signature style. grind geometry details are covered for now ;)

That's great JHammon!! The fit of your bolster is impeccable--stuff for me to aspire to.

Nice pics too.

That's gonna be sweet timos. I'm just following this thread because I'm jealous lol. Hoping I'll feel comfortable enough with my craftsmanship to get in on one down the road.

Thanks Josh, I rough it it all up this past saturday, now to just glue and shape. Id like to be able to finish these handles separate from the blades but I have not quite tried that yet. I saw the blade you posted int he exchange, it looks very nice

Hey guys, just finished the knife. Next up: the sheath. The handle is african blackwood and a honduran rosewood spacer.

We have two weeks left as of today!

I'm hoping to finish mine this weekend. Hopefully the rain will stop (Texas)

Actually got this all fit up and glued today....will finish the WA handle this week , mark the blade and put an edge on her. Ahh yes and the saya :)

I'm cutting it closer than I like. I'm hand sanding the blade today, and will likely put the handle on tomorrow. I'm having trouble deciding on Wenge, curly maple, or Purple Heart.

Im out, Ive been all over the place with my job and just got posted to a ship and am sailing. :-( I just havent been able to get it together.

I'm am out too. Things have been way too hectic around here and I haven't even open the door of my shop for a couple of weeks. Sorry. :(

no worries all, we can do it again next year too. I lost my cell so no pics but I was able to finish shape my handle last night. now for finishing and then the saya.Ive got kind of a random mix of hardwoods goin on with this one, ironwood, yakal, bog oak, and curly maple. Being short on time, I had to use what ever parts I had that was closest to the finial shape. It looks really cool though!

Just trying to help Warren--but my vote is for curly maple :)

I have been so slammed with other things to do that I was going to drop out. I was working on a white steel sujihiki with hamon, but I decided to finish a less ambitious laminated kamagata nikiri knife and stay in the KITH. Looks like it will get done in time. Photos this weekend.

I have to compliment the knives shown so far - they are superb. Makes me feel a bad about my utilitarian Japanese kitchen knife.
