Kizer Cutlery - experiences?

Fallkniven had the same problem with clips snapping in half on their PXL folders. The heat treat on the clips was not correct and that caused the problem. It has since been corrected. No company is totally immune to a mistake. The clips on my Kizers have presented no problems for me.

I haven't had much to say on this thread since receiving the 3 Kizers I purchased. I think I did mention gifting a friend of mine with the Klecker designed folder after seeing him fall in love with it. But the Gingrich GTI and the Phantom Ki5401A2 are still rotating in my edc group of knives. I have not had any problems with either one of them. These are some great knives for a really small amount of money in my opinion. I'm just glad there are some companies out there offering premium materials at a lower price. Being permanently disabled and on a fixed income now, I have to look in a lower price range to find knives. Companies like Kizer and Dendra give me some hope that I don't have to spend a large amount to get a great knife! Keep it up Kizer!!:)

My 3404A3 is completely fine. There is an extremely small amount of side to side blade play, but my griptillian feels the same way. The main reason I got the 3404 was to try anodizing it, I'm kinda getting the hang of it. If I could only get a 0-120v DC power source...

Wow! I would say you're more than getting the hang of it! That's one heck of a handsome knife.

To get the blade play to go away you have to tighten the pivot so tight that it won't flip out! And then still the blade is way off center. I really want to love the knife though.

I have the same model -- really nice looking. Mine IS centered and I did love it when I got it.

That was before it developed side to side blade play. I tightened the proprietary pivot as much as I could but it's still got play.

I'm starting to really dislike proprietary pivots.

I just tightened mine back up again and it brings the blade closer to center but still off and takes away the play but I have no idea how long that will last before I have to tighten it again. Usually takes only a week or so to loosen back up. I wanted to get another kizer knife but this has made me a little hesitant and wondering what their long term quality will be like. It's nice to see them interested and on the forums but have to see what their response is like.

Kizer, what do you suggest for those of us with blade play issues?......And do you have a U.S. facility for warranty service?

Thanks man!

Hey uphoto and flash900, if kizer doesnt warranty your knife I'd try taking it apart to look for any problems. If anything, try switching the washers around; sounds dumb, but it worked for me on a couple knives before.

Thanks -- good suggestion.

For now, I think it's important to find out just what level of support Kizer will provide.

Kizer, what say you?

Just a second thought, maybe your handle scales are warped around the pivot causing a looser tolerance? Did the knives see any hard use such as stabbing wood, prying, etc.?

Hi, uphoto, flash900:

For issues, we usually ask that you try to work it out with the dealer/distributor you purchased it from and then we will work with those dealers/distributors directly so that you don't have to wait too long for resolution. The alternative is that you can mail it to our factory and we'll analyze the issue in detail and service it as needed.

I will also continue to explore options that we have for service in the US as currently we have only a small facility set up in the states for warehousing and simple exchange/return for clear defects and small parts replacement when possible. All detailed technical service is performed at our China facility.

I will be traveling extensively before the BLADE show and will have limited access to email and internet but I'll try to check in as much as I can.

I am going to see if you are coming to BLADE whether we can offer help to you on the spot in BLADE as an alternative.

Thanks.

Kizer.

Not having a U.S. facility for warranty service is going to be a deal-breaker for me.

Respectfully, do you think it's fair to ask your dealers to do repair work for you?

uphoto and flash- I have the same knife with essentially the same problem. The knife is well centered and the pivot stays where I set it, but when the pivot is tightened to where the blade is even mostly centered it doesn't flip worth a damn. David from Kizer has been as helpful as he could be given Kizers stance on my knife, and I am currently waiting for new washers and a new pivot. I hope these two items can cure my problems. But, as I have said before, I think Kizers are nice knives made with good materials, and it hasn't stopped me from buying others. I hope they can come up with reasonable solutions to this knife's particular issues--it is apparent that I'm not the only one having issues with this model. As an aside, if I don't get mine sorted out by BladeShow, I will definitely be dropping by their booth.

Hi, flash900:

We DO NOT ask the dealer to do the repair work for us, it is simply an exchange.

1) You return the knife to the dealer, dealer exchange a knife to you,
2) dealer sends knife back to kizer, kizer send a new knife to dealer.

You as a customer do not have to wait while the knife is under inspection and repair. The dealer is not involved in the repair work at all.

Thanks.

Kizer

Hi, Fish30114:

I just got back home today and will be sending out the parts to you. If you make it out to the BLADE show, do stop by regardless and bring the original parts with you as the team attending the BLADE show can take it back to the factory for inspection.

Thanks.

Kizer.

Hi all,

I just wanted to say thank you to all who have posted feedback in this thread. I was hesitant to try out Kizer until I read the many, mostly positive reviews here. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 4412. I'll post up some pics when it arrives.

I just want to share with you guys my Kizer scores from blade. The quality of these are just great especially the orange one. It's as good as it comes. Best part? It was only $50 for that one and $25 for the nail nick ones. Where else can you find S35VN blades for this low? haha
