Kizer Cutlery - experiences?

Hi, Huntbomb:

I will just ask you to search and read through for our explanation of the happening with Tim Britton, you can find plenty of information on this forum and I believe enough has been said.

If you want to discuss this topic further, I would recommend starting a thread specifically for it as I do not want to drag this thread off-topic.

And again, I will simply state that we stand behind our product and the material, you can also find where the raw material supplier has confirmed the same fact.

Thanks.

Kizer.

Ive had several clips bend when snagged on random objects but never had one SNAP.
Titanium and S35 for $50 sounds too good to be true, which means it probably is. There are corners being cut and it sounds like a future headache from where I'm sitting.
These look familiar...
Did Tim Britton have a yard sale?
Did Ed Snowden leak his documents or what?

It would be worth looking into some of the Kizer threads, everything you mention has been covered and recovered. I would especially pay attention to Tim Britton's contributions to said threads, eye opening about him. Also, point me in the direction of where I can pick up one of their Ti/S35 knives for $50. I'll buy one in a heartbeat.

I respectfully disagree. I have bent various pocket clips on numerous occasions in my bench vise to test the flexibility and/or toughness of the clip. Sometimes, just to tighten or loosen the clip in my pocket. NO breakage occurred with my folders. Of course, repeated flexing will result in metal fatigue and the clip will eventually break.
The pocket-clip design, by its very nature, WILL SNAG on things. Therefore, clips that recognize this potential are manufactured with a tougher steel-type or proper hardness which will permit the clip to BEND rather than BREAK under adverse circumstances.
Of course, I realize that there is a "reasonable" limit to permissible bending prior to snapping.
All of that aside, it appears that you are producing folders that are very reasonable in cost versus quality of product.

Not a fan of Kizer but I can say the clip discussion is sour grapes. I caught my beloved Spyderco E4W's clip getting out of my car and it snapped off. The same happened to an old BM 710 many years ago.

Agreed. As previously mentioned in my response to Sonnydaze earlier, I had the clip on a Spyderco Kopa spontaneously explode on a cold day. I love Spyderco, incidentally, I just think it's a fact of life that clips will sometimes snap.

Thank you guys for the support!

We are running a new pass-around for our Justin Gingrich (of Ranger Knives fame) Designed model, if you haven't had a chance to pick it up, now is a great time to try it out.

Thanks.

Owned 2 kizer so far. Day and night difference between the 2. One was smooth as hell and flipped like the best but was uncentered. The 2nd was gritty as hell, using 4 bronze phoshphorous washers, deep gashes at the pivot area (internally making it hard to get it to be smooth), and uncentered. I've tried to fix it but no luck.

Seems consistency (Quality control) is pretty iffy.

In any case since I modified the knife warranty (polished the washers and removed a few thou's from them) is void unless I want to pay up costs for warranty repairs or what not. On a $100 chinese knife that arrived in the condition it did? I will pass every day of the week to pay to repair because quite frankly their QC is not up to par with USA makers. Therefore if I were to pay what's not to say I won't just get the knife back again with 4 washers again or in worse shape? And after how long? 2-3 months, 4 months?

In any case I got it to finally flip properly since their factory workers couldn't figure it out. Using 3 washers now, took off a total of .013"~. I probably could buy new washers but don't feel like messing with it. It's gonna be a project knife.

I had decided to use it for testing using a belt grinder vs S30v, and found it to be softer than Buck's S30v. By far. My grinder ate this blade like it's butter. I guess S35VN really is easier to machine, but man was that easy. I did a quick grinding to a tanto blade.
Felt like doing a nightware grind (recurve tanto) but quickly realized it was way beyond my skills, ended up removing a bit of material:

Wow, seems like Kizer is coming out with some awesome designs.

When will these be released?

That one reminds me of the Guardian Tactical Patron folder -- I really like it.

And the Kizer one in this picture;

I really like the design. This would be a good one for a pass-around. Bearings or washers?

Not familiar with full discussion on the clips but I have had more bent clips with Spyderco then anything. But my all time fav brand is still Spyderco. Guess what I am clumsy and they bend back with ease. At least for me.

This one should be washers, we do have models with bearings now, but the exact date to hit the market is still TBD.

As soon as I get some in my hands here in the States, I will be doing a pass around for it for sure.

Thanks.

Kizer.

I really like this design. Looks very comfortable. My one gripe with it is the open holes for the alternate clip locations. It seems like they need some sort of filler tab, it could be held with one screw. To me, having all those open spots makes the knife look like it's missinf pieces. In fact that's the only thing on my chrrent flipper I can find to gripe about, the open slot for tip down carry. Just my .02.

I still can't come anywhere near close to getting the 401b I bought centered. Its so far off its very disappointing, doesn't flip near as well as it should. Who knows maybe with time and bearings they will get better, but I will be very reluctant to try another kizer without seeing the one I would be buying in person

Did you try getting an exchange? I don't know how they finally worked it out but they were trying to get it set up with their retailers for a return/exchange type deal. Last I heard, anyways.

I've got a 401B too, it's pretty well centered but is a pain to get to flip right. I don't know if I need to break it in more or take it apart to lube it, or both. Has anyone found a good tool for taking the pivot screw apart? I'm not having much luck at the moment.
