Kizer Cutlery - experiences?

Now, now... we're supposed to throw our principles out for this thread. It's all about the "quality" of the product, not the ethics of the company.

Who asked you to throw out your principles? OP asked for for a discussion of the build quality and not the controversy. The general consensus among those that have handled them seem to be that they're well made.

Yea, because charging 400 bucks for a knife that can be manufactured and sold for a third of that price is ethical. Go talk to pharmaceutical companies and see if producing value priced generics that get the job done in order to combat overpriced name brands is unethical. What was the last prescription you picked up? Was it the generic brand when you could've easily bought the overpriced name brand because you don't believe it makes economical sense to purchase the overpriced version? If so, you're a hypocrite.

When you buy jeans, do you ALWAYS buy levi? Because they're the ones that originally manufactured the riveted pockets. Or do you buy other jeans that work the exact same for a more reasonable price, regardless of ripping off Levis riveted design, because your money is finite and important?

What about TVs? Or cars? Or shoes? Or any other product that takes an idea and makes it competitive for the consumer?

If you only buy the original product regardless of the too high price, then you have room to talk. Until then, stop being hypocritical.

Well Levis has allowed others to use rivets. And generics are allowed to be produced after 10 years. No problems there.
Sorry but your arguments hold no water. Stealing is stealing no matter how you slice it.

That's why i didn't buy from the "maker" and there is still debate about who actually designed it.
And you also have the right to buy the expensive one or not.
This thread was supposed to be about the quality of the knife... your getting off track.

Seems the debate is over. Seeing how the company has no problem stealing from TAD as well.

Bottom line on quality: You can get fine knives from established manufacturers for the price point which are original, proven, no nonsense performers with good steel. I just bought a shiny new PM2 for just over a bill. All you gain with the Kizers are foo-foo flippers, designs and graphics with questionable origins. If that's your taste then go for it. I'll stick with my old favorites in both traditional and modern knives.

So we understand that the fit and finish of good materials is available at a good price. I'm wondering about the quality of the steel's treatment. If the blade can withstand as much as say a kai or spyderco knife running s35vn or vg10. I'm assuming that it's not very good and that they did everything to make it look good on paper without actual quality metal work.. That's only an assumption, though, and would like to hear if it's wrong.

I have trouble dropping $100+ on a knife that is made in China. I know they are a great quality but that bugs me honestly. Japan is known for taking great pride in their products but the "Made in China" puts a damper on things for me. Maybe I will get over it one day and try one of these out. I still look forward to the reviews.

The problem here is that, to verify the quality of the steel you would need to actually buy one and I'm not spending +/- $100 to find out. If you really want to know then buy one and give it a run!

I ordered the 3404A3 and confirmed that the blade is indeed 3" and not as incorrectly stated on the Kizer website as 3.46". I like this better than the skull handle one and it's $5 less at ExtremAddiction. I think it'll look classier. My 3404A1 is a great little flipper. I prefer it to my XM-18 3"! I think the biggest objective deal-breaking concerns people have are the tip down only carry and the proprietary pivot screw. It's really well made and tremendous bang for the buck.

Great. If it's the KI401B1 below with a 4" blade I'm curious about the comfort of the handle and the flipping action. It seems light for such a big flipper!

Guess i was wrong, but its just an ugly skull anyway;the sun is still going to rise in the morning.I wont lose sleep over it....

I guess the one you ordered did not come in today goldie? Anyway, the more I look at the Gringrich design the more I'm drooling over it! That is a great design, and I think the Klecker is a great design. Guess I'll just have to be branded an unethical SOB, but I don't mind. It sure takes a lot of energy to get up on that high horse. Since Gringrich and Klecker allowed their designs to be built by Kizer, are they also unethical? Ooh I hope so, then I'll be in some good company!!

I did get it,got in late.i will post a picture tomorow. Its a real nice knife. early lockup, centered blade.anodizing is very colorful, flips nicely. The lock is strong, too. im a lefty, & some framelocks i can unlock with my index finger. stronger ones like a sebenza i cant. this is in that category, cant unlock it with my index finger.Feels very comfortable in the hand.Pocket clip works well, not too tight. no blade play, no play in the lockbar, which ive had with a bradley alias, & the tispine from lionsteel. Its well built & its alot of knife for the money. On this note, i ordered that gingrich design knife as well.im sure its going to be just as cool. cannot find any fault with this knife;the flipper is a little large, but i knew that from the beginning.if this knife was on a table at a knife show, you would never think it was made in china, & you would think it cost way more.I had a feeling these knives were going to be well made, & i think i was right..
