Kizer Cutlery - experiences?

My anodized 3404 showed up today and first impressions on it are pretty great. Smooth, centered, no noticeable play. Feels nice, looks nice, flips surprisingly well (no wrist required on mine).

I really wasn't expecting this knife to be anything like as nice as it is. I may have to order another couple, the damn thing feels like a steal.

Oh, here's a quick first photo (excuse the quality, I shot this with my cell phone, under indoor lighting at night):

I do like hearing all the good things I am hearing concerning the quality of these knives. I have a question though. I am not a fan of the proprietary pivot screws I am seeing. The ones on the knife above, and on the Gingrich knife, along with several other's, look like a wide bladed screwdriver could handle these. You may have to modify the screwdriver a little, but that is doable. There are two Kizer's I am interested in an will be my first two purchases. the Klecker and the Gingrich. The Gingrich I have already mentioned as far as the pivot goes, but the Klecker is the one I am not sure about. I assume the three protrusion's on the pivot screw are protrusion's? If not, and they are actually concave, as in slots, then a screwdriver could maybe work, don't know. But they sure look like protrusion's! Anyway, I will find some way, perhaps pliers?, to tighten it because I;
1- like to be able to disassemble my knives
2- like a tighter than normal pivot

So I will see when I receive the Klecker next week.

Kizer's are sounding like they are the real thing....

The pivot screw is slotted, and I had no issue taking mine apart and putting it back together using a flat head screwdriver. I found that a flat head wide enough to go well across the whole screw head was too thick for the slots, but using a smaller flat head that was a bit wider than the open space in the center worked quite well. Here is a closer look at the pivot screw (again, via my cell phone):

Thanks for that info evil. I figure I can modify a screwdriver to fit if needed. The Klecker pivot is the one I am unsure of, but I am sure I can figure it out and find the tool I need.:)

I wonder if an allen wrench would would for that pivot? Somebody please give that a try and let us know. I definitely have to be able to disassemble my knives for cleaning purposes. Thanks for the great info everyone. Ya'll got me talked into a pair--already in the check out cart--just haven't quite pulled the trigger yet.

If you're talking about the pivot screw as in evilgreg's picture then any broad thin flat head screw driver will work. I now use the one that comes with my Leatherman Squirt (combo flat head and bottle opener).

OK Ramzar, I guess that's good enough for me. I was thinking an allen wrench, if it worked, might be a little less prone to buggering up the screw head over time. Especially if lock tight is required to keep it from backing out during use.

Guess it's time to pull that trigger. :D

I tried, and the closest hex I had to the size of the opening was a little small, but it did turn it.

That said, literally the second flat head screw driver I tried worked perfectly, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

So... Ki412A2 or Ki412A1 is mighty tempting looking - anyone have actual hands on experience?

This KI306 is not half bad either...

Hi, Guys:

Thank you for the feedbacks. We are currently applying for a Manufacturer's forum here and working to get a pass around started. This will help us in concentrating the threads on Kizer to a single location and help Kizer answer your question.

We are rolling out models with tip-up and tip-down for the 2014 model year after hearing user feedback.

Please feel free to reach out to me directly as we may not be able to monitor each thread individually.

Thank you.

David

Here is some testing I found. Hmm

That's the first review that has really put a Kizer through some tough tests.

I like the way he finished it by saying: "I'm pretty impressed... and I didn't want to be."

That's a great video. I wish there was more like that for other knives. Watching someone cut car board and stuff isn't that interesting. I just want to know what it can do so in love the speed videos yet still talking.

I modded my Kizer I got. The belly was annoying and created a hot spot for my middle and ring finger so I sanded that down. I also milled a spot for the pocket clip to be tip up carry using an existing screw. Pics shortly

Top pic is before and the bottom two are after the mods. It's kinda hard to tell how much I removed because I recontoured the g10 to look good.

I'm thinking of adding a choil and acid and stone washing the blade.
