Kn ife collectors vs kn ife owners

I used to only collect and accumulate knives and now I only collect and accumulate knives 😜

I’ve tried to stick to a theme from time to time and it has never worked. I now have several different themes like most of us do.

Seeing your collection of RHK folders, I should no longer feel guilty of having too many (only seven).

Let me know if you want me to speak to somebody :)

To re-iterate the user part .... every few months, I put together a rotation, and it looks like this:

I think it’s semantics between collector and accumulator. Even if your hoard of sharp objects has no rhyme or reason you’re still a collector of knives in general.

As far as user vs collector I would think once you have more than one for everyday of the week than your a collector that uses them.

Just my thoughts that I command you all accept as a matter of facts!

Just for the record…. A collection is

A systematically assembled aggregation of discrete entities-be they tangible objects, abstract concepts, or data points-curated according to thematic, categorical, aesthetic, or utilitarian criteria, often with the intent of preservation, study, exhibition, or strategic utilization; it presupposes a unifying rationale or taxonomy that imbues the assemblage with coherence beyond mere accumulation.
Agree with the definition.

While I have many, many knives, I don't have a "collection" of knives.
I have an accumulation of knives that I bought because I wanted to check out some feature they possessed, be it the blade steel, a lock, a blade shape, handle shape, handle material, or just the build quality. They've all been sharpened, carried and used. They remain with me to serve as reference points for other knives that I will buy in the future.

This reply was (genetically) engineered. Speaking as a fellow accumulator, I'm on to him.

☺️ 🍻

I am developing an interest in acquiring WW-II era pocket folders , the so-called Demo or Engineers knives. My immediate interest is in USMC issued lives, but envision expanding to layer include knives issued to the Army and Navy. Currently, my most notable is one issued to the Tenth Mountain Devision's Ski troops. It is much like the cruet Boy Scout pocket folder with the usual tools . . .plus a Philips head bit for adjusting ski bindings. Its worn and as functional as one can expect from a war time utility tool that was issued to active duty troops.

I like sharp pointy things made of metal with sharpened edges. I have a few dozen of these items, but not as many as most others on this site. I use most of these items for their intended purpose. Some regularly, some only occasionally, and one or two have never been used. Some of these items are in a drawer, some are in toolboxes, some in camping or hiking bags, and at least one is always in my pocket. I will probably lose some, trade some, but rarely sell any. At some point, I will probably buy some more, even if I don’t need them.

Take that as you will.

Photography is another hobby of mine.

If you know / like the famous tricycle photo below, it is from William Eggleston. If you don't, google him, he inspired a whole generation of photographers.

These are some of his > 300 Leicas.

Thank you for bringing him to my attention! I love photography, but I don't recall coming across his work. His style is reminiscent of my favorite painter's, Edward Hopper.
Brilliant composition and colors in his photos. I need to see what film he used
