Kn ife collectors vs kn ife owners

Knives, people. We talk about knives in General Forum. Not cameras or motorcycles.

Understood Frank. The reason why I brought up the parallel is to show how use and collecting can heavily overlap.

I know you have some CRKs. Where is that picture??

I'm a user who (customizes and) collects :)

Etc.

The two things are not exclusive, IMO.

I am am owner of several knives and collector of a few Buck Knives, A few japanese knives, some Kershaws, CRKTs, and a couple of CRKs. Is that a collection, I'm not sure. I do not have specific goals I just buy what rings my bell.

I never mean to collect knives, I use everything I have and just get bamboozled by uh, "come-upons" (be mature)
So now I have a random assortment I use on everything

I own and collect a lot of knives.

Some are used more than others. Some are not used at all. Some models I have two or three of.

It's a hobby that crosses into function, which I use as a justification for amassing more than I need.

It's enjoyable, fun, and in some cases a tool that I associate memories and experiences with.

I like learning about how different designs and steels perform. I like sharpening. I like carrying and using them. I enjoy this forum and each of its members that also share an affinity for this hobby.

I am not a collector but I have 50 or so knives in 2 categories.

1. Knives from my father or grandfather or old friends. Also knives I got as a kid, in general. Those stay.

2. Knives I use. Some for work, some for hunting/fishing/camping/etc. Even some that I pocket when I’m dressed up. Those are all tools and I occasionally add more then I realize I have too many and unload a few.

I would call myself a 3/4 accumulator 1/4 collector, lol. I tend to enjoy the thrill of handling interesting designs, materials, blade steel, etc. However, on the flip side, I get bored quickly with the "accumulated" pile then move on to chasing another knife high.

That being said, this S&W will always remain in the collection pile. It was one of two knives, I bought as a young adult while attending my first Gun and Knife Show with not much money and more lint in my pocket lol.
