Knife dealers must restrict LE and low produced knives to just ONE person!

Glad to see someone else can interpret what they read! I don't care about production blades, buy all you want.... we are talking about LIMITED runs.

What's the difference?

I've been around a long time. English has never been a problem for me.

I don't think it's my business to tell someone how to run theirs. If I have a problem with that, then I'm perfectly free to give someone else my money.

It's called free enterprise.

New guy here. So far, most of my posts are "I'll take it", but this one got me going. I'm not new to the world-been here long enough to see what you get when you start "making sure everyone has a fair chance." Soon, nobody has a chance except the rule makers. Don't get overwrought about rare knives or their prices. At the rate things are going, soon you won't have either. Freedom is like holy water. You always say you only want to make a small hole in the bucket, but then...
Final and perhaps best though: the one who wants to limit YOUR freedom is always doing so in order to get what HE wants.

TNK does this for the seb 25 "Only one per customer at this time" It's a pretty good idea I think. But unless the companies producing the knives inforce this, than it's up to the dealer how they'll sell. I agree though, rare or limited runs should be limited to 1 or 2 per customer. I woulda of thought companies would of already done this.

So if a highly sought after limited comes out, and even you yourself wants one... 100 pieces made and there are no limits set... Is everyone here ok if one person buys all 100? Free enterprise right?

I suppose the proper response is "well everybody had their shot, sucks for you better luck next time its your fault"...I guess so. I got into the hobby for knives, didn't know that it could also be big money taking advantage of limited runs and other hobbyists.

I think the issue here is not people who want to buy five of a certain knife and have three in the safe, one in the truck and one in the pocket. And trust me some people hoard knives just because they want them. Fine more power to you. What I cant stand are the guys that come to this forum soak up all the limited production knives for the sole purpose of price gouging forum members that they claim to care so much about. Guess what guy, you buying up 5 rare knives from the same site I was just looking at then coming on to the forum right afterwards and trying to sell it to me for $200 more than what you paid isnt doing me any favors. If you want to jab it to your "family" thats fine. But lets not call it anything other than what it is. What irks me even more are the people that come running to defend these people doing it. I have nothing against making a buck. But I dont really see that as an honest dollar. I dont see it as work. I see it just like a ticket scalper or the same guys who go out to all the Tj maxx and Marshalls stores buying up clearance designer clothes and then selling it on ebay as first rate designer clothing at full retail. Its just low. Its like buying an $2 egg mcmuffin at 10:30 and then standing at the front door of the restaurant offering it to people as they walk in for $10 because they missed breakfast. The sad thing Is that people do it here to people they claim are their friends.

Why would one want to support a company that does this? Hypothetically- If company "x" made 100 "y's" with a limited color. Sold all to "mega online dealer" lets say. Some one comes along and buys the lot. He can now price them however he wants. Why would I want to support either company? It seems as though the brands supporters/followers are not cared for at all. I get it that it keeps there costs high and keeps them regarded as an elite/rare brand or whatever but it seems like the loyal supporters are the ones who get stiffed. How could one support either brand or shop?

Yes we know what is going on and the smart people don't pay those high prices...

The real issue is the idiots who will as there will always be those who will pay any price to get what they want.

Those types that do that are doing nothing more than ripping people off and that is really the bottom line here and they are the lowest form of bottom feeders there is along with child molesters IMO.

The same goes for the retailers that jack up the prices on items as above.

It's all about GREED and Self Gratification and that has nothing to do with Integrity and Honesty and those are traits that we don't see too much of in today's society.

Some call it Capitalism to try and explain why they are ripping people off and that's fine that they can convince themselves of that, but that doesn't mean that people have to do business with them and or buy something from them. ;)

(Not picking a fight with anyone, but I do enjoy an intellectual comparing of ideas.) Oddly, I agree with those who are offended by price gouging. Coincidentally, capitalism provides a perfect remedy for this situation: don't pay the gougers. When they can't gouge, i.e., when their market disappears, THEY will disappear. Products are always sold at whatever price the market will bear-in a free economy. If I can't bear the price, I don't pay it. I don't feel the need to rush out and pay it just because someone else did. As long as I am obsessed with the fact that a knife exists and I don't have one and I AM IMPATIENT, then I will be plucked by the gougers. If I am patient, then, perhaps, someone else gouges himself. Gougers don't do anyone-they simply take a position and wait for us to do ourselves. Let the other guy pay an outrageous price for a scarce knife and wait. The knife will, sooner or later, return to the market at a fairer price. My point being: once you assume the right to regulate the behavior of another through the power of governance(enforceable rules), freedom ceases to exist.

Yeah, all it took was one impatient buyer to pay $300 and now it's the standard for the recent Limited knife.

Where did the $300 price come from though, thats a 100% mark up off the bat. That's an awful lot for a knife that "they dont want anymore".

If all threads like this do is it point out the issue for some to take notice, then its worth the time.

The sad part is that people are paying those prices....

Lack of common since is at work there and that just can't be legislated.

"Hey I'm ripping knife hobbyists off because of capitalism, they're only $150 for me and mind your own business"

They do have a point actually

Just raise "capitalism" like the holy cross and all is good.

Their business, they decide. You get to decide to spend money with that vendor. Contact them, voice your concerns, if they don't work with you, you can not spend your money there.

That's the way it should be.

Yeah there will always be suckers out there that will get ripped off so yes they have a point....

But they are still what I said in my post above....

Like the old saying goes:

A sucker and their money are soon parted

The OP isn't decrying capitalism, he's decrying a lack of etiquette surrounding a very narrow type of item, special edition knives that are basically being put out specially for our segment of the population.

It would be like people buying thousands of tickets to the Masters. Some people have the financial means to do so, but the utter lack of concern for the peer group is pretty ugly. Capitalism is a fine enough basic system, but we're not talking about regular production items that appeal to a broad audience, they are runs of usually a few hundred. Someone who buys four or five is significantly affecting the ability of other enthusiasts to pick up one of these sentimental items.

Personally it doesn't bother me, but I have felt the OP's frustrations before in other areas. Even if someone isn't breaking any rules or doing anything 'wrong', they can still be an etiquette-flaunting butthole.

I'm not sure if it's fair to call them idiots. It's all too easy to build something up inside your head as "perfect." I can see how if someone who thought that a particular knife would be the "knife to end all knives," it'd be worth it, to them, to pay a ridiculous price for it. And, you never know, maybe that knife really would end up being perfect for them and worth the money. (Though probably not.)

It's all about GREED and Self Gratification and that has nothing to do with Integrity and Honesty and those are traits that we don't see too much of in today's society.

I agree.

A lot of people here don't seem to understand this, so I'm gonna put it in all caps: NOBODY IS SAYING THAT SOME LAW SHOULD BE PASSED MANDATING DEALERS TO LIMIT CERTAIN KNIVES TO TWO PER PERSON. We're asking that they do it anyway because it's just the right thing to do. And I'd by surprised if it harmed their business in any way. Any knife that's popular enough for people to buy multiples is going to sell out quickly regardless.

I agree NG... and the funny thing is no one decries capitalism and free market but it is the excuse of choice :) and we were just pointing that out.
