Knife Fails!

You just now noticed this?

Also, I've never seen a group of people get their feelings hurt so easily since the 2nd grade, lol.

Hell my feelings are hurt no matter what is posted, even when it doesn't relate to me.

Let's hear some knife fails.

IMO

- Anything other than full tang on a big chopper (8 inches or more). Sooner or later that thing is gonna break (experience).
- Idaho Made printed on an expensive knife. Idaho, really?
- Knives with slick handle materials with no finger choil or guard. Sooner or later you'll cut your fingers (experience).

Just having fun here.

Quality made knives that dont have full tangs can last a lifetime.
If your gonna hit on CRK atleast make valid hits. Idaho made does nothing. Handle it before you talk trash on it. Ive handled a few crk's when i was on vacation in a shop down in flordia. Didnt like the pointy thumb stud on the sebenza but the umnum was near perfection.
Slick handle material no choil or guard and you cut yourself. Your using it wrong man. Wasnt meant for stabbing if it didnt have the grip or ergos for it.

Thumbstuds too close to the handle when closed.

That I can understand. I like my knives to have some clearance from the handle so I can get my nail under the stud (I stud flick), and many knives aren't like that. It was an intentional choice though. A knife having a lot of clearance means the blade has to stuck out when closed, or there has to be deep milling around the lock.

Different strokes for different folks. Let's not fight like children over knives.

Being made in Idaho has nothing to do with the quality.

Have you ever held a Chris Reeve knife? Like a Sebenza?

When you open those thngs, it feels like angels are coming down from heaven and softly touching your hands to let you know the knife is fully open and the lock has engaged.

Dumbed down, they're very smooth and just radiate quality.
When did they start adding hallucinogens to the CRK kool-aid?
HAHA! I like CRK but this was just too funny! I almost spit my Kool-Aid all over the place when I read that!

No knife needs a guard, a choil, a full tang, or anything other than something to hold and something to cut. To say otherwise ignores thousands of years of history. Not that this is surprising.

Yup!

I know a few mall ninjas at work and they say things like 'no guard for stabbing', I ljust shake my head.

clearly a difference between tool and weapon.

don't even get me started on that statement :D

what annoys me most
my blades all scratch and scar up , but the blades people post up of their every day users seem to be as if they are brand new unused ...
I buy the best I can afford highest value for money I can get ... still cant buy knives even the same dam brands that resist wearing like that :(

Take a ceramic rod to the Sebenza thumblug and buff it. The sharp edge will disappear.

Small hideout knives like Japanese kwaiken or Scots sgian dhu stab just fine -- palm the butt.

Agreed. Seems like a perfectly reasonable question the poster asked. After all, it is the "General Knife Discussion" forum. Welcome aboard Odins Son.

He even qualified his question by saying it was all for fun. Seems innocent enough. Geez.....way to make him feel welcome.

This attitude seems pervasive. People talk about not saying things or acting in a manner that furthers non knife people's negative views of knives, well I say maybe we knife people should refrain from pushing away (calling them a troll, saying they are ignorant, putting words in their mouths, attacking them for not liking the same things as those "initiated" members) people who are actually into knives but new to the hobby. If we want this interest to remain strong we need to welcome new people.

Buck is made in Idaho ? Cool ! for some reason I always thought they were a midwest maker.

Yeah that surprised me too when I first heard it, it's even more interesting that they were based in California for at least half a century before they moved to Idaho.

People used non alloy metals and brittle stones/minerals as tools for thousands of years as well, that doesn't mean there is something wrong with you for wanting your knives to be made from steel. I never understand this argument. Yes, most of the time you don't need a guard and could get by without it. But in this day of ultra high tech low coast materials (think g10, frn, carbon fiber, etc) that are easy to produce in highly ergonomic designs that incorporate the safeguard of a finger guard or choil or whatever, why attack someone for wanting that added security?

Folding knives with any sort of blade play or weak pocket clip are Fails in my book; especially high-priced mid-techs and customs. To me, purchasing a $500-$1000+ knife that's not rock solid in every position is like purchasing a Wilson Combat 1911 with an un-matched slide and barrel; sloppy.

Folding knives have been produced since the Pre-Roman Iron Age(circa 500 BCE). By now with production tools/machinery allowing for exacting precision, solidity should be a industry standard.

The more money I've spent the more I've been annoyed with these issues lately.

what about accidents? guards prevent slips. I think it's nice to have. But you're right, sometimes I drive cars without airbags, and ride bicycles without brakes. ;)

If your hand slips in a draw cut, a finger guard is of no help. If you are stabbing with a knife without a guard, you are driving the wrong way on the freeway.

Thank goodness you contained yourself otherwise you wouldn't get the whole effects if the hallucinogenic properties of that cool aid!!! Mines grape flavored...mmm
