Knife group for budget friendly knives

Chinese made knives are a common topic. Yes there are those who prefer US made knives but many fine knives are made in the Far East. WE knives for example and the Massdrop knives made by WE. I have the Gent and it's terrific. I also have a Bestech which is amazing for the money.
This. China produces what they are paid to produce. If I pay them for garbage specs then I will get garbage product. The inverse is also true.

I used a $9 Spanish friction folder for some small garden chores the other day.

A few days later I did some heavier garden work, and used another $50 Spanish made budget knife for some digging and root cutting, while I used the sharper Lionsteel that was in my pocket to cut off a dozen large Agave leaves.

Even the biggest "knife snobs" here will go on a love-rant about Opinel and Mora, both under $20. I routinely respond to EDC posts about carrying my Wal Mart $4 knife and my head hasn't been ripped off yet.

$4 for your Wally Knife? Maybe money does grow on trees for some here. But that's way out of my pay grade. My Wally Flipper was $3.87. Now that can be afforded by us middle class. ;)

That Boker Plus Auto was one of my "go crazy" treat myself buys. It was something like $28 from BladeHQ a couple years ago.

Edit:. I feel that I should add that both of these bottom barrel bargains are lovingly displayed on one of my multiple display "Chepper Knife" shelves. I do have my snob knife section. But have tons of cheap knives. They allow me to try out different designs. And also let the kids grab whatever they want and go crazy.

Idk if it's still made but I loved my Boker Plus Trance

There are many great budget knives
One of my favorite folders is the kershaw emerson cqc6. Just a great knife in my opinion. Other good budget options are the kershaw link and dividend. They run around 40 bucks A piece and are USA made if you want something made here. Spyderco does a great job in their budget line and in my opinion their budget line is better than many other companies premium offerings

Obviously, the idea of 'budget' items really vary from person to person. Lots of people who are serious collectors may not blush at dropping a few hundred on a custom or high end production knife.
Value knives, though, are what I consider a different thing completly. What I consider a value knife is one that has a higher grade level of either; materials, design, or manufacture than other knives of a similar type.
Several have been discussed; Rat 1, Mora, several Kershaws, steel will cutjack, etc.
Even if I don't 'need' a new knife, I still consider getting a new value knife, if just to check it out.

I thought the whole thing was budget knives and had to chuckle at the CKF DCPT-3 in there :D Really nice display:thumbsup:

Folks here discuss inexpensive knives all the time. Ozark Trails come to mind. Not well thought of, but they work. Another is Rough Rider and the current Schrades.

There are cheap and there are inexpensive knives.

I just ordered an inexpensive Kizer to try out. I'm hoping it isn't "cheaply made".

I think most here have an appreciation for budget knives as many started off with cheap knives. The difference now is we know the difference between cheap and budget as well we have learned of some of the deceit with regards to clones, rip-offs, knock-offs, and counterfeits. Which sadly casts a shadow over China who is producing some good knives w/o participating in dirty business. It also casts a shadow over Pakistan but really there is to my knowledge only 1 knife company that might be doing things different out of that place.

Yeah, I got sucked into buying a few of those high-$ Wally knives, but then I wised up. I waited until they switched models or had overstock, and got a bunch for $2. each. I even got some "SAK"s (Shanghai Almost Knife) for $2. Even better was a 10-pack (?) of Sheffield folding lockback utility knives for $10.

There's some rather nice utilitarian folders out there now for $20-$35 is seems. And some small fixed blades suitable for camp/kitchen use from $9-$12.

I just want to find a group which is more open toward budget knives being I cannot afford $500 to $2000 custom knives and I may be new here but I know there is a hatred for budget knives in this forum. And I am not here to get pissed on and called out because I cannot afford what many of you consider a real knife. So can anyone please recommend a more fitting knife group for me that gets more into budget knives? I looked online and could not find any

You're in the right place as BF pricing goes from $0 (GAW's) to $infinity (where no price can get you that knife). You need to read and join discussions that apply to your interests today and move on to other areas of BF you've seen, know nothing about what want to learn. For folders, look at the big mainstream manufacturers of quality knives (Benchmade, Spyderco, etc..) for discussions on current knives and reviews along with Sprint runs and new upcoming releases. For fixed knives, their mainstream manufactures of quality knives (ESEE, Bark River, Becker, Kabar, etc) for the same types of discussion. Explore higher end fixed and folder manufacturers (Busse, Chris Reeve, Emerson, etc.) for the same discussions and go back and forth until your interests drive you. Move up to makers section for their versions of fixed and folders, along with Traditional Manufacturers and makers.

Read, ask questions, learn.......Enjoy BF it's a big place.

IIRC Buck N Bear has knives from China, Pakistan, and the US I really haven't looked too closely at them or their knives but I haven't really heard a lot of stink about them either.
There Chinese line that started a year or two ago is a huge improvement over the pakistan knives.

My entire business is built on value knives and tools. I write about them often. There's a lot of great stuff out there in the $50 and less range. Sometimes MUCH less.

Personally I won't pay more than $120.00CAN on a knife, if I did, I wouldn't use the thing.
That seems to be just below average around here for the price threshold of using knives. I'd say the average seems to be around $130-$190 CDN.
It's kinda funny that people seem more willing to spend a bit more for a flipper that they intend to use mostly for fun.

I used to really like customs, but lately I have been buying/using more of the high quality budget knives. Some of them are such a great value for what you get. Shame it took me so long to find these great high quality budget knives!
