Knife or Death

Is Travis that big, or is it the angle making the MC look like a HDFK in his hand?

Ah, thanks. Didn't realize he was that big. I think there might be a little foreshortening due to the angle, going on in the pic too, 'cuz the BSI 10" choppers didn't look that short in his hands.

I knew that he was a big dude, although a lean one because Bill Goldberg is at least 6’4” if no 6’5” and Travis doesn’t look much shorter, plus I recall him from the original FiF episode and he was taller than all his other competitors and taller than all the judges.

Hey thanks guys I appreciate it. It was a blast and I came up just a bit short. I did make my knife. I know I'm not a regular here in CPK forum but I like following there work. I used cpm3v on for my blade because of alot of info Nathan has been generous to share on here.
Man the course was tough. Some of the obstacles like the moving boxes, the chained up 2x4s and on dead run the carousel of 2x4s gave me some trouble.
I gave it my best shot.

I think you did great ... and I liked your knife design ... and heard Travis mention you used 3V ... I think that was the first that I heard that was 3V so I was very interested in seeing how it performed ...

and as I would expect ... it looked like it held up great ... and you definately have reason to hold your head up ... in the heat and a tough coarse and you made a real nuce blade for the competetion ... you did great ... congrats.

Your run was excellent!

Found a photo of Bill, Travis and Tu Lam, and you're right, though it's hard to be sure due to perspective, Travis looks like he's within maybe an inch of Bill's 6'4".

It's funny that you call him 'lean' though, (unless you meant lean as in 'not fat'), because he's fairly muscular.

It struck me how much perceptions have changed over the decades when I watched a couple of the older, Sean Connery Bond movies recently.

The 'big', dangerous, muscular henchman back then would be considered average build today, and less muscular/defined than many regular Joes who just lift regularly these days.

Another example is looking at photos of the average soldier from WWII to Vietnam, vs today.

Yes, muscular but on the lean side. Dude's got big guns for arms but he's not all juiced up like these hideous looking bodybuilders of the past 20 years or so.

OT about the rest of your post: even if you go back to the golden era of bodybuilding circa the early 70's to mid 80's when Arnold had made his presence known on that scene, with Muscle Beach in Venice beach et al, those BBs had less freakish vascularity and muscle separation / shredding. In fact they all had relatively very small waists and sucked in muscular midsections as compared to their upper torsos. The modern era BBs look like having a big bloated gut but stacked with 6 packs of abs!

Congrats on the great run Justin! You were right in the fight to the finish. That dead run course definitely has a lot of penalty traps that involve luck (like the flying barbecue meat).

Yeah that one seems kind of like it needed a bit more thinking by course designers. Travis told me he tried it and the meat would bounce off or knock the entire grill over.
Ball Buster took me missing 3 balls to realize I needed to switch up my technique, by the time ya get it figured out over.
