Knife or Death

I think you did great ... and I liked your knife design ... and heard Travis mention you used 3V ... I think that was the first that I heard that was 3V so I was very interested in seeing how it performed ...

and as I would expect ... it looked like it held up great ... and you definately have reason to hold your head up ... in the heat and a tough coarse and you made a real nuce blade for the competetion ... you did great ... congrats.

JJ

Thank you so much.
My knife, Zekes and Sifu's were all 3V. I have some pics of mine afterwards I will share and there is very minimal damage to the edge.

Ugh. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I injured mine last June. Chose to see if PT/rehab could help avoid surgery. It's been 15 months (12 months of PT. Couldn't even start for the first 3 months after the injury)

It's still not 100%, but it's definitely better than it was after the injury.

BM - Mine was killing me and believe it or not, I went the PT route which only aggravated or pissed my RC off. I had to bite the bullet and go full bore. I'm sure later on I'll be glad I did but for now...I wouldn't wish this pain on nobody. Good luck to you.
Now..let's go MTM and bravo!

I had partial tears in both my rotators at the same time. The left was pretty bad, the right was minimal. My job is physical and I had to keep working. I also did PT for over a year and got back to about 90%. But I kept tweaking them when lifting heavy stuff or climbing through attics. It wasn’t until I started jogging a few miles a couple times a week that they got back to 100%. Best of luck!!! It’s a long road back but can be done - unless it can’t be.
I know you’re thinking “jogging”. Me too, and my shoulders weren’t the reason I started jogging. But I could tell a difference after the first week. After three weeks my shoulders felt better than they had in years.

Yeah, whether PT only, is an option, depends on how bad it is. I went from warming up with 60 pushups, to not being able to do even 1, after the injury, even though I can do 1-arm pushups.

Just the flexing/tension in the right shoulder hurt too much while trying to do a 1-arm pushup with my left arm.

It's come a LONG way since then, but it's not back to 100% yet. Stupid tiny little rotator muscles don't recover very quickly.

Was a little concerned when testing the BC after I received it, but fortunately, everything felt good. If it hadn't been for the injury, O would've tried out for KOD too.

Obviously, I couldn't do anything like that anymore, but it is kind of surprising how winded some of the competitors are. One would think that they would prepare for the event. Didn't they watch the first season?

Also, IMHO, some of the blade choices are rather poor. (I.E. Stupid.) Well, they got their 15 minutes of fame, I guess.

I can assure you that the show doesn’t accurately portray the amount of work you put into the course. It is heavily edited. Add to that the fact that it was about 110 degrees inside that warehouse in August in Atlanta, Georgia. The two of those factors combined lead to a tough situation for people who aren’t in great shape and/or aren’t acclimatized to the heat. There is definitely more to the course than the small segments they air on the show.

Oh, and we were there for about 12 hours that day, so the guys who ran the course towards the end had already put in a very long day. Thankfully, I was the first of the day. :)

That is my point. What is someone who isn't in great shape doing there? It makes no sense to me. I see the same thing on Forged In Fire. "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen."

In my younger days I worked with people who did hard physical labor all day in ahot building. Obviously, some of folks competing don't do anything like that. I don't remember who it was, but they showed him doing pushups. I don't remember him doing very well.

Until I retired a few years ago I worked in an unairconditioned shop brazing sights in 100+ degrees. Not very comfortable, but I didn't fall over either. Of course, unlike Atlanta, it was a dry heat. :p

The preceding is just my uneducated opinion. I wasn't there. All I know is what I see on the TV and I realize that that it's edited.

That dead run course definitely has a lot of penalty traps that involve luck (like the flying barbecue meat).

Yeah, just watched the 2nd episode on the dvr and not liking the increased "luck" factor...bad enough before with having to get the water to collect in the funnel just right to blow out the candle, but getting meat to land just right on a grill? Too many variables to do that with skill. But guess skill alone isn't enough to get the ratings...

took the family for a well deserved vacation to Montreal this past week, and as luck would have it, our hotel room had cable! Finally got a chance to watch a few episodes of the show, and it looks like a very difficult challenge. I honestly have no idea how I'd do, and I have a good knife swinging base. I'd try it for sure, though-it looks pretty fun
