I was about one step away from buying my first Benchmade, the HK Mini Pika II, but before I could place the order it ended. So I am back here again, asking if anybody knows a knife with a plastic or metal (non G10 pref.) handle, 3-4 inch blade, blade steel of AUS-8 (or equivalent) or better, and a thumb hole opener. Folder obviously. A price of $20-$30 is ideal, with a firm cap of $50 (for knife + shipping). I know I gave a ton of criteria to fill, but the people here have helped me work with a lot more. Thanks in advance!:D

Go for the Kershaw Tremor... 25 bucks, 3.75 in. blade, 9 inches overall, 6 ounces, it's a freakin' beast! No thumb studs, but a huge flipper, go check it out :P

For about 15 bucks more, you can get a Blur on Amazon with 420HC steel. I just got one recently and I love it so much lol

Can't do the Tremor. Kershaw G10 feels like -5 grit sandpaper on my hands. I had one of their G10 knives for a few days, and after my fingerprints were rubbed off and my hands being raw, I returned it. I have looked at a few more of their G10 knives, and they are just as abrasive. The Blur is also a bit meh, I hate the insert things in the handle, they feel like steel wool mae of rubber. Not abrasive, just a bit painful to grip firmly. Also not too hot on the 420HC blade. I don't trust that steel, it just doesn't seem to ever perform well for me.

Sorry to hear that bud, I guess it's just a preference. You ever checked out the Spyderco Tenacious and Persistence? Both about 30 bucks

The Tenacious may be what I have to settle for. What made me pick the Pika over the Tenacious was the bayonet pocket clip. I love the no-rise pocket clip, because it sits in the pocket very well.

What about a Buck Vantage Select or Avid? Not the same type of hole as the BM or Spydies, but still usable, and a decent flipper.
I took mine apart and polished the liners and tang around the pivot, and washers, and it flips with no wrist action now if flipping is of any interest. I've never really tried flicking it open via the hole tho.

Is the Spyderco Delica out of the running? I'm sure you can find one on the forums at the price you're looking for. You gotta toughen them hands up a bit my man.

Kershaw has quite a few offerings that match what you've listed, except for the thumb hole (Drone, Tremor, Volt II, Skyline, Zing, Od-1, etc.). They have thumb studs or flippers.

Spyderco has quite a few in their Byrd line (Meadowlark, Cara Cara) and some of the made in China Spyderco knives like the Persistence & Tenacious.

The H&K line is the least expensive of the Benchmade Brands.

Some of the Boker Plus Chad Los Banos line would fit what you are looking for (minus the thumbhole.)

Kershaw OD-1 has the smoothest G10 I've handled. If your hands are that soft I'd suggest you carry scissors.

A.G. Russell featherlite knives seem to be an option. I think they're right around $30 if you go for the AUS8 blade option.

Also, Buck Bantam BHW would be another that fits your needs. Comparable to AUS8 with 420HC blade steel and Buck does one heck of a heat treat.

Ontario Rat Folder, Satin Blade for about $30. great knife.

What hogslayer & mcsrno said Ont. Rat-1 folder. Tough sob. Don't make me post my $25 Rat-1 batoning firewood pics! :D

The Tenacious is a beefy well priced folder as well, but I sold it - never really connected with it like my Military.

If u are not too strict on the thumbhole, and are willing to consider thumbstuds, another +1 for the Ontario RAT 1.
If thumbhole is a must for u, then I'd go for the Spyderco/Byrd options.

Another vote for the RAT 1, satin finish, plain edge! The texturing/checkering on the handle scales are too smooth for my preference though... :)
