Knife suggestion (for me, not from me)

Serious question... Are you female? Bc the g10 on the kershaw isn't THAT bad...

I am a guy, my skin just refuses to form calluses. Not to mention having very sensitive skin.
Also, Buck knives are out, I hate their steel and blade geometry. I currently have a Spyderco Byrd Raven, but the screw holes are totally stripped, and the Byrd hole is a bit uncomfortable. I most assuredly want a knife with a thumb hole, not thumb studs/flipper (I have a lot of thumb stud/flipper knives, but no true thumb hole, I just want to diversify my collection.)

Thats an awful lot of choices of steel to hate.
Go flip some hot tortillas on the grill or swing a pick axe around, I'm sure you'll callus right up

I should have specified, I hate the 420HC blades. Their better steel knives are all (to my knowledge) outside of my price range. TBH, for a cap of $50, my only real steel choices are 420HC, Sandvik, 8Cr13MoV (and it's slightly improved version), AUS-8, and lower end 440C knives. I really did screw myself on options, but I know there are a few good choices, mainly being the Spyderco Tenacious and the BM/HK Pika II (the both have a Pika), with some others that I don't know of yet.

Cut some trees. Stack some firewood. Build something with wood. Calluses well form in no time. Shoot, I have them on my pinkys where I tie my work boots.

Let's not make this a forum all about how to form a callus. I'm not looking at Kershaw knives (esp. with G10) right now because I want a thumb hole opener, not thumb studs/flippers. I will eventually get another thumb stub/flipper knife, but not until after I get a thumb hole opener. Thank you for the suggestions though, I will keep the ones that currently do not fit in mind when I come to that stage.

The Tenacious may be what I have to settle for. What made me pick the Pika over the Tenacious was the bayonet pocket clip. I love the no-rise pocket clip, because it sits in the pocket very well.

I've carried the Tenacious many times and it sits deep and firmly in the pocket, pulls out & deploys easly - and who cares what "style" your clip has on a $30'ish knife right?

This sucker puts a lot of blade steel in front of your hand, very sharp on arrival and easy to maintain the edge.

I was about one step away from buying my first Benchmade, the HK Mini Pika II, but before I could place the order it ended. So I am back here again, asking if anybody knows a knife with a plastic or metal (non G10 pref.) handle, 3-4 inch blade, blade steel of AUS-8 (or equivalent) or better, and a thumb hole opener. Folder obviously. A price of $20-$30 is ideal, with a firm cap of $50 (for knife + shipping). I know I gave a ton of criteria to fill, but the people here have helped me work with a lot more. Thanks in advance!:D

Why not just shop around for a Spyderco Delica? If you like the Pika 2, perhaps you'd also like the knife it was basically modelled after... Or you could go cheaper with a Byrd Meadowlark 2 (the Byrd-hole is a little different than on the first gen models.)

After looking around, I am liking everything with the Resilience and Tenacious except for the pocket clip, which could be worse. I may swap looking at the Tenacious for the Cara Cara 2 FRN.

Enlan el01. 3.70" 8Cr13MoV blade, flipper design. $15-20 on eBay. The only knock on it is that its China-made, but I've heard good things. At least check it out.

To be honest, the OSO Sweet by Kershaw is my favorite EDC. It's merely 23 bucks average, even cheaper on Ebay. Being so cheap, I don't worry about hurting it, but no matter how hard I use it, it holds up great. You may like it, I dunno, just a suggestion :)

Can't do the Tremor. Kershaw G10 feels like -5 grit sandpaper on my hands. I had one of their G10 knives for a few days, and after my fingerprints were rubbed off and my hands being raw, I returned it. I have looked at a few more of their G10 knives, and they are just as abrasive. The Blur is also a bit meh, I hate the insert things in the handle, they feel like steel wool mae of rubber. Not abrasive, just a bit painful to grip firmly. Also not too hot on the 420HC blade. I don't trust that steel, it just doesn't seem to ever perform well for me.

Sounds like you could use some calluses on them hands. Nothing wrong with 420HC, it's been a great steel for a long time and it still works. Like any other other steel exotic or non, it requires a good heat treat and the proper amount of sharpening. The Round Hole openers will create a callus on your thumb too, oh noez! :D

I'm still not understanding why the simple answer to this question isn't the Spyderco Delica. Go on Ebay or check the for sale area of the forums daily. It should run you right around your $50 cap and gives you everything you want with VG-10 steel.

I just checked Ebay and within 15 seconds I saw one for under $50 with free shipping and a buy now option.

With the Delica 4 and Centrofante III being in VG-10, is the steel really worth $20 more? Sorry for all of the questions and all, this is an area I have not treaded (buying a knife without getting to inspect the model in my hand).
Also, I saw on amazon a Delica w/ wave opener for under $50 with shipping. Is that too good to be true, because it sounds suspect.

Since I'm not a big fan of thumbholes myself, I had forgotten about the thumbhole version of the Ka Bar Dozier...so if u already have a Byrd and u are willing to change, u can't go wrong with the Dozier.

I looked at a Dozier at SMKW, and it didn't seem very flick-able to open it. Can it be adjusted to work like that?

For most people myself included VG-10 (quality Japanese steel) is worht a lot more tha say 8Cr13Mov (not high quality Chinese steel). It's a matter of preference. Why buy a Chevy Camaro when your Ford Fiesta will get you there?
