- KnifeMakers Scribe - GIVE AWAY

I'll take # 46

Been a collector of art knives and fancy tacticals for about 25 years. Been purchasing equipment for the last ten years, and I'm slowly traveling down the path of new maker...

Thanks,
Steve L.

I'll take #66, if it isn't taken. I live in central LA. I,ve been making knives for about 2&1/2 years. All stock removal now. Want to do some forging in the future. I've always loved knives, but since I started making them, about all I do is work on knives or read about knifemaking.

I'll go with the classic 69 please :D.

I'm knife junkie and have been for as long as I can remember. Family members often think there is something wrong with me because of my love of knives. Realizing that production knives are okay and tiring of having to sharpen my hunting knife after field dressing every other deer or so I decided there has to be something better out there. A guy on an archery form I'm on posted a few knives he made along with a tutorial on how he does it. I figured "I can probably do that". Found this place asked a gazillion questions withing days of registering. Stacy offered me a chance to get me pointed in the right direction which I promptly took him up on. And that brings me to about present day, got addicted to Burl Source's wood in the process. And managed to hook up with Aldo a couple of times so far to to get my feet wet banging on steel instead of just grinding it. I'm also in need of a center scribe as well so hopefully this number pulls through :).

Thanks for doing this JT

OK, I'll take 60 because that's what I'll be by the end of February. Got started making instead of drooling at knives because my lovely wife Donna gave me a class as an anniversary present when my .com crashed in 2003 and I was out of a job. That hooked me fast. The second major change came this year when that ol'rascal IG held a forge raffle that I won. My very slow production got set back even further this year setting up a smithy and starting to forge; but O Boy is is fun!

ILL take # 49 please Im a knife maker for the past year and havent cut myself since I hung a lucky rabbits foot in my shop. kellyw

I'll Take #24 because I am the 24th

About me well I am new to knife making, started planning a few months ago and just started making. I haven't even finished one yet, though I truely enjoy it and cant think of much else to do right now. I am a full time bicycle mechanice and have learned to make/design the tools I need when I need them, but if I can get one for free I will jump on it.The scribe would come in real handy for laying out my edge lines instead of just eyeing them up.

I will take 41

I am new to knife making, I am working on my first knife now, I started it using a couple files and a grinder. All I have left to do to it is drill a few pin holes, send it out to heat treat andthe put the scales on.

I do not have many tools as of yetbutone ofthese would really come in handy,
I used a drill bit and my kitchen table to mark my lines in my current knife!!

I'm in. I'll take #57.

I've been retired 2 years making knives in northern Arizona. I just recently started making folders.

Thanks for this offer.

My name is David Sharp so I had to be interested in knives. I have collected knives since my teens and have had to consider a less physical hobby recently.

I have been involved in metal fabrication of the off-road variety but radiation and chemo have taken their toll. Not being able to get metal out of my system I am trying my hand at knife making.

Hey Jarod, good go. I'd love a shot at one of your designer center scribes.

I'll try # 15 please!

As for knife making, there's not much to tell. I guess I've been working on my first knife for a few years now. I've welded up a couple solid fuel forges and hammered out dozens of railroad spike, leaf and coil spring blades. Not too long ago I started working with 3/4" 5160 rod and 1/4" 1084 bar. I am primarily interested in knives as tools for home, farm, wood, and field made with "natural" materials. I have zero interest in knives as weapons, thus I don't plan on making any tacticals, bowies or daggers, etc.

I've had the good fortune to spend a day working with Patrick Randall and Eric Fleming in their shops in S. CA. I spent a few days at a time, two summers in a row with Indian George in MA (near my hometown in NH) where I made up some damascus billets with his press, "Big Bertha." I got some great forging tutorials from Gary "Wolf" Rua and David Sylvester (JS) at IG's too! Last summer I got to attend the ABS's first NE hammer-in in Maine. There were many demo's from some real nice guys: Don Fogg, Jim Batson, Jay Hendrickson, Christoph Deringer, Dan Cassidy, etc. I should admit though, I don't learn that well from watching demonstrations. That is why the two hands-on forging sessions I had with Dan Cassidy (JS) and Mace Vital (JS) were the most meaningful parts of the weekend for me.

The most exciting news now though is, if all goes well, Ed Fowler has consented to put up with me for a few weeks this summer doing a ranch/forge work-exchange! I sure hope it pans out, as I fell in love with his knives (via photos) years ago and still admire them greatly.

I'll take #3, the number of knives I'm usually working on at one time. I grew up on a farm outside of Edgerton, Alberta, Canada. When I was around 10, my Grandpa let me use his arc welder - I made a ball and chain that I used to bust 2x4's and a tomahawk-like object out of a piece of 1" pipe and swather knives (they're.somewhere in Dad's shop now) - been hooked on metal ever since. My uncle Kelly got me into knifemaking in '03 and life just seemed to keep getting better from there.

I will take #4 please.

I have been making knives for about 4 years and specialising in slip joint folders for the last 2. I started my first knife back in 1991 and didn't finish it until 2007 by now the bug has really bitten me. I have only just started selling my folders and have started working 1 day a week on knife making for the last 2 months so I guess that makes me a part time maker at the moment. Last year was good for me I was made a full member of the Australian Knifemakers Guild

I'll take #48.

I'm a stay at home dad that used to be a professional falconer. I started making during my sons nap times and have really enjoyed it. I've finished one knife so far. It was the blade from a cheap butcher knife that I turned into a caper just so I could go through steps and see if it was for me or not. Now I have two almost three ready for HT. One is a santoku and the other two are hunters. All filed from 1095 barstock. Your scribe would be really helpful at this point because everything I've tried to use hasn't been that successful. Thanks for the opportunity.

I'll take #87.

I began to learn to make knives about 3 years ago using a little Harbor Freight 1x30. Made 4 knives then had to take a 2 year break with the birth of my second daughter and the subsequent health issues that plagued my wife. Now that she is doing great and the little one is 2 I am excitedly getting back into knifemaking. I am inspired by the talent and helpfulness here.

I'm a new knifemaker in Utah, I have my first knife almost completed. I have built my grinder from scratch, when my Kanthol wire arrives I will complete my HT oven. I have been getting some help from Bart Draper, son of Harvey Draper. I am a full time Photographer with a retail studio in Stansbury Park, Utah. Great tool, I plan on buying one when you catch up. Thanks for the chance
