#58 please. I have been making knives for about 10 months. I make hunting knives, but made my first fillet knife over the past few days. It was also my first knife using SS. It was 440c and I did the HT myself. I will also add that the folks on this forum are the best! Without this forum, I would never have arrived at the point I am now.

Thanks for your kind offer.

47 (47th post) and I'll go back through and change it if it's already been picked. I started in knifemaking this past spring. I was a scout leader and the father of 2 of my boys was put in jail and they were having a really rough time with it so I wanted to do a project that would take their minds off of their current situation. One of the boys is fascinated by knives so I decided that we should try to make some with saw blades like some I had seen on Archery Talk. Well, after hanging around here a bit I decided to use a known steel and called up Kelly Cupples and he made us a deal on some steel that I couldn't refuse. We worked, at first, with files and a bench grinder but I came across a great deal on a 1x42" Delta which changed things considerably. Since then I've finished 3 knives, 4 sheaths and am hooked! Quite the addiction really, I wish I could put this much effort into school!

Thanks JT, I would love one of your scribes - and your Mom's knife turned out fantastic!

Oops... just read the reast of the intial post... :-)

I have been making kknofes for the last 3 years. Not near as many as I would like to be making, as I am spending a lot of time getting the smithy up and running. It is in the 3rd stall of our garage (walled off) and I want to make sure all of the safety equipment etc... is just right. A primary reason I became a bladesmith is to complete my ultimate goal of makling a pair of pattern welded Celtic leaf bades swords. The swords are to fulfill a special promise to my son Christopher. He would have turned 22 on December 22nd... the second sword is for his twin brother Mike (he doesn't know he is getting one). They were inseperable 'buds'. I want to call the swords the 'twin dragons'... Chris was always the 'protector', he took good care of his friends, and he loved Dragons...the protectors in ancient mythology.

Anyway sorry to talk so much.

Thanks again for the generous offer. Looking forward to spending a lot of time here with this very gifted bunch of bladesmiths.

I'll take #16

I have been making knives for a few years now. Mostly making knives for friends and family, but have been selling some far a little while now. At least that way I can convince my wife it is a hobby that supports itself....right? Thanks for the chance.

I'll take 27 Make that 17 - 27 was already taken. Thanks!

I just started in Knife making this last fall after seeing having troublesome of Atwood's stuff and wishing I could buy it without resorting to exhorbitant eBay prices.

I then thought to myself - that doesn't look SOOO hard, I could probably do something like that. How much could it cost?

I do like my new KMG - but it would have been significantly less expensive to have not gotten "hooked."

I think #63 is still open for me to take.
I have forged knives in the summer and handle them in the winter. I only get a few done each year since they are so time consuming.
I started out by wanting to makre one for my son after trying to fix up "Grandads " for him and deciding it was a piece of junk.
Cheers Ron.

96 please. Love that little bug, thanks for the chance.

I've been collecting tools and following the custum knife trade for 30+ yrs., set up shop with a KMG and heat treat oven, forge etc. about a year ago. Three knives so far, with a few more in the works.

#98 Just a random number. I have always been attracted to the finer knives I've come across in my travels around the world. On August 4, 1999 at 3:40 pm I was rear ended by a vehicle traveling in excess of 70 mph while I was stationary in line at a red light. A broken neck, back & 6 spinal surgeries later by early 2008 I had to switch gears and slowly give up extreme sports etc... and was miserable. June 5, 2008 I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at the age of 47 and was devastated. In September 2009 my doctor suggested I find a hobby and my love of all things sharp lead me to Blade Forums and you fine folks. I have completed 7 knives since October and really do love the whole process. I don't do titanium since my whole spine consist of titanium plates, rods & screws with 6 artificial disc thrown in as well. So here I am and as money permits I'm adding equipment to help make things easier on my body and to feed my growing addiction to knife making. Thanks for the chance to win the scribe!

ill take 14. i always loves knives ever since my boyscout days. My dad was never around so i never learned stuff about tools cars etc... I started knife making around 2.5 years ago. i fell in love with it. Now i have something i can teach my son--much joy--marekz

Edit: 5 already taken, switching to 97 Please

So far to scribe the edge I've been marking it with a sharpie, then holding a drill bit down on a table and scratching the sharpie off. Doesn't work very well, but as you said edge scribes are hard to find.
