- KnifeMakers Scribe - GIVE AWAY

#88

I am very new to this and been doing a lot of reading. Just trying to get a list of tools I need and waiting for steel. Time to give it a try. Found the site from reading posts from DIYers on ArcheryTalk.

I want to make some hunting knives for some relatives. I only hope I can put and edge on a blade like my grandfather. Everyone to their knives to him to be sharpened.

Good luck to everyone.

I'll take number 95.

Funny I was just thinking about your scribe a few minutes ago while draw filing my first blade in the garage and looking at my terrible "drill bit method" centerline. :)
Obviously I'm a n00b.

I'll take #82.

Well I first attempted making knives back when I was in college. However, I had no idea what I was doing. Then many years later I found his place and eventually went to Tom Krein's shop where he and Dan Koster helped me through my first couple of batches of knives.

#11 here.

After attending the first FABA meet here in Florida I will be buying the final ingredient to my knife making mix....a belt grinder. I have scales, files, tools, anvil, hammer, bar stock, etc.....I can't wait to start!

I'll take number 45 Lets make that number 9

I made some knives when I was a kid. Started back up in 2005 when my dad asked me to make him one.

I'm at the "I think I make good stuff, but I need to get my name out there" phase

Thanks for putting this on

Edit for number change

Hey - that's my number! :)

I'd like number 55 please. I'm a shadetree knifemaker and try to convert the knives in my mind to steel.

I'll take number 72.

I'm 29, and have been making knives since September. I've completed 5 or 6 so far. My shop is kind of small, but I did buy a nice KMG setup. Each knife seems to be getting better, so I guess I'm on the right track.

I'll take 37

I'm just starting out I haven,t made #1 yet I'm about 70% done on my 2x72 home built grinder and when its done I will go full tilt on #1

Thanks for the chance

Steve

I'll try for 18. I'm a newbie with 1st of 4 knives in the completed profile stage. Had an eye problem that required 3 surgeries and now in a stage of no depth perception or seeing out of one eye until the oil is removed this coming June. Hopefully everything back to normal.

I will take #89... Random number.

I just started in this knifemaking journey (6 mos. now) and Bladeforums has been where I have learned everything. I have collected custom knives my entire life. I have made 15 knifes to date and learn something (usually a lot of things) with each knife I finish.

I should be on your backup list... but this is great of you to do for the Forumites! Thanks JT:thumbup:

I'll take #34

I'm just a guy who started making things in my dad's shop, decided one day that I needed a knife because stealing blades out of block planes wasn't working out too well and now I'm hooked. I've not the foggiest of how many I've started or finished, but I have 6 that I've done that I EDC or use around the shop (although the majority of my time recently I've been using to fix up the shop which takes the form of an old carriage house).

Thanks for the contest JT

Hello JT,

I'll take #1. Thanks for doing this.

I got into building a forge to support my son's knifemaking ambition about 5 years ago. I then built him a KMG clone, Heat Treat Oven, and various other tools. During this process of supporting him, I fell in love with knife making. He is now away at college and will not be done with his chosen education for about 8 years. I'll carry the torch for him and continue to learn as much as I can. Folks on this forum make the journey a pleasure.

HI I will take #64 This is my first post here. I have been making knives on and off for five years but seriously for the past two. I have always collected knives and have been told I am a knife nut. Making knives has been a natrual progresson for me. I started making my own self bows for hunting in 1991 and after making my own archery gear for years decided I needed and wanted to make my own knives. I have spent most of my time making my own tools such as a KMG clone, forge, post anvil, press, tools etc. It would be cool to win something from a first post! I have only ever forged my blades and love everything about knifemaking.
Thanks Steve

I will take 71. Thanks JT.

My passion for metal working started when I was in high school metal shop over 20 years ago and I remember one of the rules of the shop was no knife making. My career led me to a job at a metal fabrication shop that makes parts that are cut from sheet steel and I figured out that knives can be made out of the same material. When doing research on how to make knives I got on JT’s web site and watched a couple of his videos and that inspired me to get a grinder. From there I have very blessed with finding tools and material to help advance my skills. My goal is to use the proceeds to help pay for my sons therapy classes.

I'll take 35 please! Started making knives in October of 08. Made the first one with a hacksaw, file and sanding paper. I accumilated knives before then. I thought it might be cool to make one and I am hooked now.

I'll take #90

I just started making knives this about a year ago. I am located in Cypress, Texas which is just outside of Houston.

I am still on a steep learning curve but am often amazed at the support and knowledge that this knifemakers offer each other here.

Many thanks for the chance, JT.
