Knifemakers Workshop

Thanks again John for putting this thing on. I'm super excited about it. Already started sketching out some blade ideas last night. :).

PLEASE JOHN, START THE SIGH UP FOR THE NEXT CLASS SO WE CAN MAKE PLANS!

My weekends start to free up in June

How about June 25-26?

Crash at my house invite still open for 2 beds for the May Workshop

I would love to have one every month or so, but I need to see how the first one goes. I'm worried about time constraints, need to see if people can make knives in the time we have.

Glad you were able to make this work. You guys will have a great time!

Jeff

This will be the style grind we will be doing, along with the "textured" flats.

Gorgeous! Is that oak? Please sign me up for the next one JK. I live in Yorkville, IL.

That looks great John, I'm thrilled to get the opportunity to work on a knife in your shop. Just WHARNing you now, I think my design is pretty badass.

I am attending a two introductory knife making class here in Dunedin, FL. This class is around $250 for two consecutive Saturday's . Every attendee will leave the class with a knife they have made . I love knives but am totally new to knife making and have very little artistic ability . Nonetheless , I think it will be a good learning experience and at least allow me to better appreciate the craftsmanship of a fine artisan's creation. I will share my experience when the May 16 class ends. If my knife is suitable, I may even post a pic!

Thanks for the WHARNing, looking forward to seeing your design.

Dang it John. You know I would be there if only I were closer.

Everyone will have a blast with this, I am sure!

Just thinkin..........................

If someone should pull out, I can fit this in on short notice. I'm in Oak Park, not that far away, and mobile. I was thinking this would be a lot of fun.

If anyone cancels this time, I'm not going to replace them. There will be another class if this one goes well. From reading some of your posts it looks like you may have some experience?

Alright guys, here's my first sketch of the knife design I want to make in May:

I'm looking for critique and opinions. This here is my first pass at a knife design ever, so just wanted to share and gather opinions on what could be improved in it. I know it could use a little refining at the moment, but we have a month and a half to do that still. :) Thanks guys.

I LIKE IT FINE EXCEPT FOR THE LANYARD LOOP RISING ABOVE THE GRIP, COULD BE UN COMFORTABLE WITH LARGE HANDS OR A REAR GRIP,
Like it a lot actually.
You may run short of time to do a good job on that jimping, so maybe forget that option?
Anxious to see finished product, I have a jk EO1 Hunter Wharncliffe that I love.

Brad beat me to it, I was going to say the same things. As for the notches, we can wait until everyone has their blanks completed, then see if there is time to add them before heat treating. Saturday may be a long day if things don't go smoothly for everyone.
There should be plenty of time, as an example this morning I ground out 3 forks, and 3 knife blanks, all are sitting in the furnace. Those took me 3 1/2 hours to get ready.

I really like my EDC Semi-Wharnie. Thinking of a slightly smaller version, about 5.5" OAL.
