Knifemakers Workshop

I thought I would post a brief rundown of how this is going to work. I am also going to make a knife, one step at a time. I will do a step in the process, then everyone will do that step.

Saturday Schedule

Trace pattern on steel, cut off the piece with your pattern.
Grind profile
Drill pin holes
Flat grind blank
Stamp makers mark
Grind bevels
Drill pin holes in handles and trace around blank
Cut out handles
(lunch will be around 12 or 1)
Heat treat (you can leave anytime after the heat treat process is started, or stick around for a drink, if anyone brings any alcohol)

Sunday Schedule

Finish grind bevels
Cut handle pins
Glue on handles
Take a break while glue sets up, probable do lunch
Rough shape handles on belt grinders
Hand sand handles
Sharpen blade

Sounds good, John!

I will stick around a little while after day one - I intend to just stay up there since the gas and time to drive home would be about the same as a hotel room anyway.

I did send payment on Monday - looking forward to some fun!

Do you still have the smaller XD pattern? I think we could try to go for an XD style that fits in the pattern size.

Also - are the paper respirators ok to use?

I do have the pattern, and paper is fine for the limited grinding you will be doing. I have quite a few patterns in the size range we will be working with.

So every Friday we have a tech meeting. Yesterday, my helpdesk guy updates the meeting notes and when I open it up at 7AM the date says May 22. Nearly had a heart attack. Had to triple check the calendar.

John,

There are 3 Jacksons who want to come to next workshop:
Brad, Dave and Dave's boy Gabe

Cool - darkmatter and I are sharing a room at the Super 8 Mokena/Frankfort - all set!

Right across from Denny's, and next to Beggars Pizza . There is also a Country Inn and Suites and another one by I-80 and Rte 45 about 2 miles from there.

One more week! If anyone has a folder with a sheepsfoot blade, bring it. Real handy for scraping glue.
