I think all I have around that I would part with right now is in Canon FD mount.

I do recall the Sigma EF 20/1.8 being a pretty solid performer, you might keep an eye out for one of those. All depends on how wide you want, and how fast.

Daniel I took this one especially for you. :D

I'll keep an eye out for one of those, but I've also been checking out the Nikkor 24 f/2.8. I would like the 2.0 version, but at 4x the price I doubt it. Down to 1.8-2.0-2.8 would be fast enough

Farchyld - I can throw my $.02 in the ring re: camera. But a few questions.

1. Does she want the be able to use interchangeable lenses.
2. If so, does she have older lenses she wants to be able to use on the new system (if so, what kind are the old lenses).
3. Are there any preferences regarding size? (pocket/purse size? vs. compact with changeable lenses vs. full size camera)
4. Are there budget constraints?
5. Any extenuating photography needs (e.g. bird/wildlife or sports photography, which would need specialized equipment to do right).

Xander - been there, rarely fun, but you'll get it. Worst case scenario, at least it was only a sigma. ;)

CLAMP ORGY!!!

1. Yes
2. She has this older film camera with a bigger lense. I know *nothing* about cameras. I will try to be sneaksys for info.
3. I.. think full size? She took a photo class and loved it. Wants to do more of it.
4. Always. I just work around them once I have a set goal.
5. Not that I know of D:

Daniel withdrawwwwwwww!

Xander - KEH has a pretty good stock of the 24/2.8D, as well as the 20/2.8 Nikon.

Farchyld - re: 2, that would be good to know - at least to give her the option. Brand and model (of camera and lens) would be good, but even just brand and if you can tell if it is autofocus or manual focus will be enough.

There are a lot of good performing, well priced dSLRS out there by just about every manufacturer, so I'm sure we can find a recommendation that will work for her.

Looks like a Canon Rebel? Some kinda ... larger lense? It can twist... man I am bad at this, lol.

autofocus canon - that helps.

I'd probably look at the Canon Rebel t3i - should run about $500 with the kit lens, and will let her use her older lens just fine (both are EF mount).

Size should be comparable, and nothing drastic in the way of changes in interface (aside from being digital, of course). Good image quality, good video quality - especially for the price.

Yeah, KEH is always my first stop for used gear. I do have a VIP membership with Adorama, so I can get the special deal pricing with them too.

20 is just about too wide, but can be useable on the D200 (aps-C sensor) for general wide view stuff. I don't really ever plan on buying any specific DX fomat lenses, I like to be able to use them on my other film bodies. The 24 2.8D is looking like a prime suspect (pun intended :p) for now, but I have my spies on the lookout as well, so we'll see what turns up! Hell, I have even been looking at old kits just to get a lens!

Just got back in from the shop, had to do a bike tune-up. I now remember why I left the industry, I really don't enjoy wrenching all that much on cheap bikes. Oh well, if it gets someone to work and that much cloer to being out of my house, then so be it! Lol!

MOAR BEER!

I just came across some Channelocks in a size I don't have. *sigh* *purchase*

Something cool about Channel lock brand, their pliers are made from 1080! Find some old ones and forge out a damn good blade!

Lol, that's enough info...

Can we talk about golfing??
:D

NO! No sports with a ball.

Good choice, I don know a whole lot about canon, I've shot Nikon for 25+ years, but the fact that she has and EF mount film camera means she doesn't have to buy a new lens to use a digital body. Tell hr not to get rid ofher 35mm, they are fun to keep around, especially when th batteries go dead in the digi. I keep my F100 as a back up to my D200. Then the N60 to back that up, then the FG to back that up, then....... :D

Oh, and do check out KEH.com, they usually under rate the condition (better than described) and you get a warranty on used equipment that has been tested by qualified techs. Far better deal than flea bay, which is priced higher than KEH anyways.

Haven't seen Daniel in a bit. I suppose we'll see some crazy stuff then if it's got his attention.
