Actually, since we want to get so scientific and quantitative I can propse one more thing:
Knowing the hammer weight which Noss does publish, and also knowing the frame rate of the videos which is ~24 per second, or 23.98 something for super precise guys... One could calculate the speed, force, momentum whatever else. Since speed=distance/time we also need the distance which the hammer of truth travels, which can be measured in a still frame and knowing average size of the objects in the view, i.e. the same hammer of truth, (or doom if you will), knife itself, you could calculate the distance and hence the speed quite precisely.
That will be a lot more precise than "OMG it's so unscientific".
Now, before I get yet another assignment to do all that myself, I have to state that I am absolutely fine with Noss' testing, his website (which I haven't visited for over a year until I got involved in debates in this thread) and I have no urges to prove Noss ' results neither wrong nor right

, as well as no urges to convince public here to believe/disbelieve him, his tests and ratings. I believe it's a personal matter.
Just pointing out that for those willing, and putting "precise" results above all, Noss does provide more data in his videos than it is implied in this thread.
The method I mentioned above works very well for multiple fields including CSI, Ballistics experts, miscellaneous equipment tests and much more. Worth noting, the method was used by Myth Busters on numerous occasions and no doubt will be used more.
Of course high speed cam footage of Noss swinging his hammer against the chart would make things easier, but well, he's not as fast as a speeding bullet and we'll have to go with what we have...
