Happy New (to me) Knife Thursday!

I picked up a Buck 791 Range Elite from the exchange to finally see what the buzz around Magnacut is all about.

I’m not shy about voicing my preference for traditional, non-powder metalurgy steels - and some lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek ribbing to go along with it - so I’ve stiff-armed Magnacut until now, but I’ll give it a fair shake and see what I think. More to follow over in the Buck sub-forum.

Man, I’m so thankful to live in a time and place where we have such choices, and where any of the available options are more than sufficient to meet our needs!

How do you like that tea - I haven’t tried it. I used to drink a lot of the Arizona Green Tea. Back when it was in glass bottles they used cane sugar. Close to the time they switched to cans they also switched to high fructose corn syrup and I eventually had to give it up since it contributed to migraines. Never found a gas station replacement I liked. I mainly stick to hot tea these days.

It tastes fine to me. I get the 20 oz cans of this black tea based drink at Dollar Tree these days. So it's a cheap one to try out. I like the Liquid Death drinks in general because they use agave syrup instead of high fructose corn syrup. Yeah, it's still sugar. But at least it's not HFCS. I try to avoid HFCS when I can, even though it's in just about everything these days, due to its extreme insulin/blood glucose impact.

The flavors of the Liquid Death drinks I find to be somewhat muted & subtle (compared to sodas). It may be an acquired taste. I have the typical American palate that's accustomed to 150% slam dance of sugar/salt/fat/spice flavoring. Time spent living in Europe taught me some lessons about food quality & flavoring that still serve as culinary litmus tests to this day.

Happy Thursday!

Well, mostly happy. This is day four of no black tea and no caffeine. Why? Well, did you know that people can get stones in tear ducts, similar to how kidney stones form? Yeah, I had never heard of that either.

I’ll spare y’all the details, but giving up the black tea and caffeine is supposed to help. So I’ve been drinking herbal teas this week. Soulless, lifeless, herbal teas. They have their place when you’re sick, stuffy, etc., and they’re not bad, but when they’re forced upon you not by choice, well, that’s a different story, altogether. So this week has been a lot of lemon hibiscus - which I really do like, it was the first tea I really started drinking with any regularity decades ago - and some gingers. Today is Celestial Seasonings’ Ginger + Probiotics. Again, not bad when you are in the mood to choose it, but when you really want to reach for the Lipton or English Breakfast…

But at least the knife in my pocket is a home run! And that makes me smile. :)
