Well, I'm not new here, but since you brought the thread up again, I'll just mention another hobby of mine; instrument building. Here's a thread I just completed in the makers sub-forum documenting the building of my first steel string guitar, if any of you care to see it:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=666029

Phillip, what you are saying is that from this:

Here's the first installment. It's about the only part I have right now, the sound board. Going on the assumption that this being my first try, I'm probably going to make a fair number of mistakes, I'm trying to keep costs down as much as possible. So, I had the idea of using the sound board from an old piano to make the guitar's soundboard, since they use the same wood for both (spruce). So I checked on Craigslist for free piano's and found an old upright that was well past it's prime, and got it for nothing.

It took a few hours to take the piano apart and grind off the braces, but here we are:

You ended up with this:

THIS is truly an amazing achievement!!!

Since you are here it is taken for granted that you are also
interested in custom knives!? :)
Do you have 30 hour days where you live?

I am new to the forum...and what a wealth of information. I am slowly making my way through all this good stuff. I just saw this thread so I figured Id list some of my hobbies. My main hobby is making pipes.... www.russalanpipes.com

Aside from that I spend a lot of time playing the guitar, surfing, sailing, hiking, camping....the things that make life worth living.

At last, after several years of photography and original writing,
here is the planned cover for my next book:

"Art of the HANDGUN
An Illustrated Guide to Self Defense & Combat Shooting
"

The book is a ground breaking originally designed project, using more
than 400 professionally done original photographs and is a first of
its kind in the world of modern handguns.
A totally new concept of visually presenting the subject... From the very
basics of understanding a handgun all the way to advanced shooting tactics!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

I decided to bring this Tread up front once again so that
the many newcomers frequenting the Blade Forums, can share
with us also some of their extra-knife-curricular interests and
activities...

The book is ready for print... I know, and so does everyone who
saw parts of it that it will be a great bestseller in the USA and
the rest of the world.... SO, I am trying to find a USA publisher
who can introduce it to the world with me...

That is the difficult part, mainly because of the fact that I live
way, way overseas...
Too far from where it is all happening...

On Post #411 of this Thread I presented a "peek" at a few pages

All the best,

David,

I wish you well on this book, and I'm certain it will do well.

That cover shot is about as intriguing as it gets. Great timing!

Thanks Coop,

You are on my short list of people to get one of the first copies
when the book is printed. I think you will really like what I did...

All the best,

I thought it worth bringing this Thread up front as there seem
to be quite a few newcomers to the Forum, and I at least,
know nothing about them.

How about some insight into your un-related-to-custom-knife activities?

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Just a quick note to say that earlier this year I finished creating the fully
illustrated guide to the practical art of the handgun.
I printed a high quality sample small run of 200 copies of "Art of the HANDGUN"
to help me introduce this new and original concept to the publishing
world and find a worthy publisher/distributer to deal with the first official
edition of the book. Hopefully during 2011... :)

I'll have a copy of the book with me at the BLADE Show if anyone
would like to have a look...

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Exciting hobbies Guys! Beautifully documented too!

An interesting thing, Gerhard, I was commenting on your ASSASSIN
while you were posting here.... :)

All the best,
David

In recent months there are quite a lot of collectors and custom
knifemakers joining in on the Custom & Handmade Knives Forum.

I think that all of us would like to know a little more about you and about
some of the other aspects of your lives and your hobbies.

This is also the time and place for "older" members to tell and display
some of the exciting Extra-Knife-Curricula events happening recently in
their lives...

How about it?

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Cool thread.
I haven't made many of these in the past few years (since starting with knives)... but I am fairly proud of them nonetheless.

There are a few more photos of them on my Flickr page HERE.
