Yep. This guy was hanging out one afternoon about 12-15 feet off the end of our dock. Just checking out the neighborhood, but that is when you keep the dogs and kids out of the water. I've scuba dove with sharks and barracuda when I was young, generally they don't bother with you, but I don't share the water with a gator.
I wanted a 336, preferably genuine Marlin, pre-Remington, pre-safety, and pre-micro groove barrel, and looked all over the place, but something was wrong with every one I found. I'm sure there is one out there, good luck.
To me, .30-30 is ideal for Florida. Vegetation is pretty think here and unless you are hunting a power line right-of-way, there are almost no long shots. But people, me included, persist in getting flat shooting rifles like .270, .308, and 7mm Mag. Thing is, long after you can't see, the bullet is still going unless they hit a tree. I'm OK with the old hunters, but the younger nimrods make me nervous, so I quit hunting, other than with my son or solo. Still love the woods, though.
