Knives in Action

This morning, dressing a new hammer I decided to put an octagonal handle on it. So started roughing it in with a chisel and then went to the 1907 (rough estimate on age) Gottlieb Hammesfahr with MOP scales to do the fine tuning and burnishing of the grain on it.

I also cut some camilia japonica for the wife this morning, and a cinimon roll for me, but forgot to take pics...

I had a stubborn bag of Cuties that needed opening last night. The Peanut made quick work of the tough nylon net:

Then, this morning, it REALLY came to the rescue. My morning apple fritters are packaged in close-fitting cellophane. If I just grab 'hold of the fritter and yank it out, I lose a lot of the glaze, which is completely unacceptable. But with one fell swipe of the mighty Peanut's razor edge, this crisis was averted! Who said us desk jockies don't have a use for a knife?

Peeled an apple with the Russlock today. Giving the peanut a break. This one is more comfortable in apple-peeling than the peanut, but really no more capable.

here is the Queen Mountain Man slipjoint with D2 on my lobster trap hauler. I was given this knife by a former forumite and have been carrying it pretty exclusively since late January or early February. I haven't gotten a chance to really use it yet but now that spring is almost here there is a lot of work to be done on the traps and lines. Sorry about the crappy pic, I took it with my cell phone while i was running the boat and the camera sometimes does this...You can still kind of see the knife :D

Sure thing LKJW...firstly,they skin very easily...a little cut up the breastbone and peel em like an orange.....secondly..we dont hunt them so to speak,we just shoot them whenever we see them. They are an import from Australia as are the Harrier hawks that i also enjoy eradicating...The parrots fly in packs, they never build their own nests. They fly from tree to tree in force, staunch out the parents, then throw babies (native) and eggs from nest...I have witnissed this many times, hence why they are on the (hit list).......Because they fly in numbers, and do their dirty work in a matter of seconds, they are quite hard to get with a .22....my friends wife wanted to eat this one...........FES

used this Queen Mountain Man slipjoint to cut a lot of rope. I have to cut the knots out of the mainlines for my lobster traps and splice them to keep them from snagging on the bottom. I start setting my traps in April and have a lot of work to catch up on. It was in the 50's today so I could do some splicing outdoors. Each mainline or groundline is 660 feet long and gets a lot of knots in it from gear conflicts or from snagging on the bottom and breaking off so there is a lot of cutting and splicing to do in the spring time. Anyway- here are the pics :D
