Photos Knives of the Hot Zone

Careful, brother

Cold Steel Black Talon 2 , plain edge . Great SD knife but also a very good and precise box/package opener ,and slicer of string , rope , plastic zip ties and straps .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

This is my dedicated knife for opening all incoming mail , packages , boxes etc that may be contaminated with covid 19 .

After using , it gets disinfected or is set aside where it can't spread the virus .

Today it opened some boxes of bulk paper products , TP and paper towels , which will sit out in the car for a day or two before being declared "clean" enough to come inside .

Maybe going overboard a bit , but we are old and really don't want to risk infection .

Exposure to nice hot sun , heat and UV is very good to kill most infectious microbes .
sad part is, I imagine that would happen even pre-pandemic... tweakers gotta tweak :(

only frightening part is, in some places, they are 1 day away from rioting... imagine if the only isp went down for 24 hours?
or if the aid payments don't happen in the next couple of weeks?
I seriously hope neither of those things happen but it's good to understand when a situation gets 'hot'
It's sad, but I have tweakers running around my neighborhood here now.. going in garages, cars, one went into my neighbors house across the street, and they were home. I'm asking questions later if I see anyone with scabs, in my yard

Seeing stuff like "leave toilet paper in your mini-van to disinfect" makes me shake my head. Add in the very rigorous "day or two" time frame and you might ripen a tomato but you won't do much else.

Dank, you're talking to an older gentleman. Have some fucking respect, or my apologies if your parents raised you funny like. If so, you should fire them

Have some respect for BF and watch your language in the general forums.
So people can say what they want and it's ok. Got yape

People should learn some respect, rather then popping off to people, like nobody has done no wrong ever. But computer dick heads can say what they want out here and it's all good. Got ya... Have a good rest of your day, brother

You know, there are a ton of people working to save lives in actual "Hot Zones" right now. You opening packs of TP at your house doesn't count.

I have a Vic classic in translucent green that sits on the counter I've been using to open stuff lately. I do properly disinfect it, along with anything coming into the house, after use.

There are rules. Respectful disagreements are allowed. Insults and profanity are not. If you feel someone else has crossed the line, you can click the report button. Otherwise, let's stay on topic.
I have read that 48 hours or so can degrade the virus, so leaving it in a car couldn't hurt.

On the other hand, hoarding TP hurts everybody.

I'm older myself. That's why I know better.

Just for example if had hypothetically wanted to post something disrespectful I would have said something like "OK Boomer".

To the subject. Any kind of knife I would used to open a package I was worried was contaminated would be a fixed blade and it would be disposable.

You can get angry if you like, just trying to save you from some infraction points.

As for the OP, sure, leaving non perishables in a hot car for a couple of days certainly isn't a bad thing. Kind of seems pointless though if you have all other sorts of groceries to bring inside right away.

"When temperatures outside range from 80 degrees to 100 degrees, the temperature inside a car parked in direct sunlight can quickly climb to between 130 to 172, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The temperature inside a closed car rises most quickly during the first 15 minutes that it is left in the sun, according to the CDC." according to a news article that could be true or maybe fake news .
The temperature of anything when exposed to a heat source will rise more quickly at first before slowing down and leveling off as equilibrium is reached. The rate of energy transfer between two bodies is dependent on the difference in temperature between them. The higher the difference, the faster the transfer of energy.

I carry this one because it has tactical colors and it will scare the bad guys away when I rack the speed safe on this bad boy. :D
Tweekers beware!

Just to be picky... virus don't die, as they are not live organisms such as the bacterias. They just desintegrate once the lipidus cover/protection they have is compromised. :p:p

That's why they recommend to wash your hands so much. Is not only because you rinse it away from your skin, but also because the soap (any surfactant to be precise) destroys that lipidus cover, then they just ... poooof!

Alcohol is also a great degreaser, hence the use of all those alcohol gels.

Given enough time, the lipidus cover degrades by itself, so leaving it alone for a couple days also get's rid of it.

I just talked to a cooworker yesterday who is working right now in Israel and he was doing pretty much the same thing as you do. He did some shopping on friday, left the bags in a room for a few days and yesterday was about to organize all the items.

Yes ! Good point about the virus not being alive . They can only reproduce by taking over other organisms and forcing them to make more virus . They cannot multiply on food alone . They have no metabolism . But , they can become "inactive" so that no infection can result .

Most virus are not very hardy . Not nearly like a spore forming bacteria like anthrax or clostridium . Lucky for us !

o_O You are completely wrong ,IMO . Fact check yourself please . Virus are not spore formers . Most have fairly short half-life exposed to the environment .

Do as pleases you so far as the virus prevention . No skin off me !

I recommend mainly staying at home . Social distancing and properly fitted N95 (or better) mask is primary when exposure is unavoidable .

Eye protection necessary for personal contact . Proper hygiene , always.

Getting infected from a package , possible but far less likely than someone coughing / sneezing right in your face or directly onto your food .

Evolution in action is correct . We agree that much !

Other than criticism of my plan , do you have a alternative plan to share ?
