Knives with really cool handles

Bob, that is amazing! I love them San Fran knives, especially ring daggers.

Thanks for entertaining our eyes.
I would like to share my latest long blades.
It is not fancy, given by Dayak of Upper Barito River, Central Borneo.
From one of very remote village in Borneo Island.
For myself, i thought it is cool caused the story behind it.
I was not order or ask to them to make it for me.
But we regularly visit them to support their livelihood.
Any kind of supports that we could.
They knew that i am the manager of the program, the largest great ape rehabilitation center in this planet.
Caring for 600 orangutans and 200 staff.
Traditionally, carving on the hilt is "aso" figure (dog), "lemantik" motifs (leeches), etc.
As far as i know, there is no such of orangutan figure carved in the past.
So, this one, probably the first orangutan figure on mandau ever made by the Dayak.
Traditionally, if a mandau given to someone on a ritual/ceremony. It has meaning that the Dayak accepting us and we become part of them or we then responsible to things that intended on the ceremony/rites.
But this one newly made from modern steel, i doubt it if they made it as The Dayak makes mandau in the past.
So, for me it is "ordinary" mandau but means a lot to me.
They made it special for me, not a piece souvenir sales in the shop/market.
I will keep it and pass it to my son.

Wow. I somehow missed this thread the first time around. I really enjoy looking at different and interesting knife handles. Thanks for bringing this one back up!

I'm not minding this one coming back. Seen some of these before, but others are new, and they're all always inspiring.

Frankly, I myself have got to admit that I didn't see how old this thread had been - and was posting that San Francisco knife at exactly the same time STeven was posting the DEAD THREAD post. And if I had a brain and had looked at how old the thread had been, I probably would never have posted myself.

As a general rule, I share the same opinion as STeven when it comes to following the BF rule against thread necromancy.

Some things are just a little better with age, and some the later postings were really a pleasure to view. Unless someone started a new, redundant thread they would have never been shown (maybe), so it's all good! I thank the later posters,.....but I still love STeven!!!

^I like that! Makes me smile :)

as for thread resurrection, I absolutely believe that it is appropriate in certain instances. This one's a good case in point.

My favorite handle of all time. Its mind boggling on how it was done.
I had to take a few images of one of my knives for a friend - and they turned out so well that I thought a few people might just like to see another off-the-scale Warenski. So here is another "really cool handle". Hope you enjoy-

Bob

Where is this rule posted here? The only posting rules I ever found are here.

I have to sheepishly admit that I have probably not done a thorough enough job searching for all of the posting rules for this forum. Probably I missed something very obvious! I get confused by this forum's layout at times and miss the obvious. :o So, if anyone can point me to where this (and other such rules) can be found, I would appreciate it, because I do want to follow the rules.

Or is this one of those unwritten rules?

It is an unwritten rule as far as I can tell; however some "enforce" it by locking old threads that are resurrected. I don't believe any "points" are given out for it though. Some people like rules, like the old Five Man Electrical Band song about Kalifornia:

"Signs Signs everywhere there's signs
****in' up the scenery, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign"

I suppose, considering the way the following is written, that it is probably subject to interpretation, but the title of the thread - and a few of the caveats within it - suggest that it applies not only to the Exchange but also to general discussion subforums:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/announcement.php?f=748&a=98

In any case, it's the rule I've generally fallen back upon when in doubt. While there is enough specificity that would cause one to infer it applies only to "buyers", my presumption (for quite some time, rightly or wrongly) has been that it's become applied more globally than just for buyers - considering that some mods have locked old threads in the customs sub-forum (I've seen it happen, as brownshoe has described).

It can be appropriate in certain circumstances, but more often than not, it is simply some dillhole not looking at the date of a three year old thread, and kicking up some maker he likes but can't afford and going " heck yeah, just beautiful, I want one".

Doesn't hurt much, but what it does do is push the good stuff off the 1st page quicker. We all have an interest and a stake in seeing what we like, so it becomes a matter of each individual Forumite to expressing themselves and how they do so.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

imo, perhaps a new thread should be started to discuss this topic, as opposed to going completely off topic in a necromanced thread?

Damage is already done, you want to start a new thread, feel free.
