  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Knives you think are cool/neat but don't buy?

I think the Cold Steel XL folders are really cool, but I don't know if I'll buy any more. I have the XL Counterpoint and tried to like it. It just isn't practical for me to carry. I love the 4 Max Scout and carry it quite frequently. I know there isn't much difference in the dimensions, but it's enough to me.

Spyderco PM2. I love the knife in concept, but I carry a knife more than I use one, and the PM2 is just a little large.
To me, the handle is a work of art. Yet, the blade seems to be an afterthought. Put the blade from a D'Allara 3 on it, and you would have an amazing knife.

I have considered a Para 3, but there's something about it that just doesn't work for me. Maybe I can't justify the purchase. Not really sure.
If you already have a folder that fills a similar niche to the Para 3, there’s not much of a point to grab the 3, yeah. Your Mini Sebenza, Mini Benchmade, compact ZT, etc. will perform very similarly.

That said, the Para 3 is a great knife, IMO. It’s a well executed sizing down of the PM2. It’s the Glock 19 to the PM2’s Glock 17. Usually when sized up or down variants are introduced, something of the original’s identity is lost or mishandled. That’s not true of the Para 3.

I really enjoy looking at SHFs and CRKs, but won't buy one because 1) I dislike framelocks, 2) I know I won't use them much because the are so expensive and 3) I've already got a lot of knives that do an amazing job at cutting things, so it'd be an unnecessary expenditure. Maybe in the future, but with my Spydie folders I think I have the folding game covered and my interests are shifting more to kitchen knives nowadays (been eyeing a Gyuto or something like that, to pair with my Nakiri) and I still "need" a large chopper blade for choppy things

This is one reason why I enjoy going to Bladeshow so much. There is the opportunity to handle a bunch of knives that "look cool" on the internet, and you can see for yourself whether the knife is something you truly need or not.
