Knives you won't buy (and why)

I'm the same way when it comes to finger grooves, but for me it's the fact the knife is telling me how to grip it and I don't like that.

Finger groves are like boots. If they feel perfect when you try them on they'll be too small right after its too late to return.

Theres certainly stuff I wont "buy" for full retail but most of my friends and family get me knives or knife stuff as presents. I really appreciate each and every one of them. I'm not "too good" for anything. My kickass girlfriend just bought me a crk large micarta 25 and of course I was exited-but I saw a crkt graham razel for 22.88 on amazon and got it last night and Im pretty exited to mess with that too. My grandma got me a frost little slipjoint-its not good quality but it was very thoughtfull of her and it gets a little time in my coin pocket.

500 dollar knives that may or may not flip worth a crap and have rock lock I'd never pay retail for and I dont care for makers that tell fibs. You dont need to be a super soldier to make a nice knife. I heard andre devilliars was a jerk to some people but he was nice to me and signed my prototype butcher case...Heard robby Dalton made knives for skinheads or something and Ive got an arcangel otf despite having jewish heritage. At least those guys are themselves- its quality stuff.

Counterfits arent cool - people work hard to earn their place in the industry...Some people argue the can"test drive" to see if they want a real one but thats not for me. We can swap around in the forums to do that. If a friend or family member gave it to me I guess Id throw it in my toolbox/glovebox etc... hasnt happened yet.

Blades with big sawtooth spines don't do anything for me. Just a personal thing.

I really hate it when they don't work, but some do work a little.

It is really irritating when a working sawback design, from a proven maker such as Lile, is inconsistent about dipping the front of the teeths: Even Lile will dip them or not dip them, and when undipped the saw is utterly useless... Wall, Lile, ACK and Voorhis are either inconsistent about dipping them, or consistent in not dipping them.

I like to have them because even if the saw works only a little, that is still more than a smooth back which does nothing...

Knives I won't buy:

-Any non-dagger fixed blade under 9"
-Any dagger under 6.5" and over 10 ounces.
-Anything without a sizeable double guard: No real valid reason for this, other than I like a retention strap opposite the edge.
-Usually nothing that is in carbon steel.
-Any NEW folding knife: I would only buy 20 year old designs I already know. Somehow I can't thing of owning anything other than older CRKT designs and the Spyderco Civilian, and I only have the Civilian...

1: Anything made in China. Reason - China is a communist dictatorship that is being built on the backs of slave labor, pretending to be our friends while having ICBMs aimed at us.
2: Bear Grylls. Reason - they are butt ugly and look stupid.
3: ANY knife that the maker has decided to use the blade sides of as advertising billboards. Reason - see above.
4: Cold Steel. Reason - Cold Steel has gone down the tubes in terms of quality from what I hear.
5: Any knife with a douche-bag name like "Hoodlum," "Grim Reaper," "Savage," "Terminator," "Rambo," "Disemboweler," etc. Reason - see #2 above.
6: Serrated blades. Reason - PITA to sharpen.
7: Busse Combat assymetrical grind blades. Reason - see #6 above.
8: Chisel grind blades. Reason - see #6 above.

Fully serrated blades...I have no need for them
Most Cold Steel...not appealing to me
Blades with wave feature...same as fully serrated blades
Clones/copies...don't believe in the practice
Stainless steel frame & handle knives...no interest at all

Don't like combo blades. If I want a serrated, I'll get one.
Knives with no country of origin.
Most Chinese blades. I do however, kind of like my CRTK No Time Off.
Knock-off or counterfeit knives.

I won't buy knives with thick coatings like some of the Busse / Swamprat / Scrapyard Knives. Some of these knives have pebble like texture which in my mind create nothing but drag when slicing. Many knives are overbuilt like the shorter blades with thick stock makes for useless weight. I'm also getting away from bolsters, some are like boat anchors, more useless weight.

Serrations
Chisel grinds
Strider Knives

There are more things that I don't like, and would be unlikely to buy, but I think those are my only three true deal-breakers.

I won't buy any knife over $150.00. Why? If I lose it I'll never forgive myself. :)

That's pretty much my limit too. I'd top out at $200. You can get some really really nice folding knives and excellent fixed blade knives in that $150-200 price point and frankly, FOR ME it's the point of diminishing returns. Anything after that and you're paying for craftsmanship, collectibility, artistic embellishment, etc... that doesn't necessarily add utility. Those are all fine and i do see the improvements. I don't think I'd get more enjoyment from a CRK or a custom than I would from, lets say, a Spyderco Chaparral with titanium handle and CTS-HXP which can be had for half the price.
Again, that's just me. I know a lot of people pay a lot more, and if it means they spend their own money to get the knife they want, who am I to criticize?

Anything over built to the point of silly.......still don't get why one would need a sledge hammer in the shape of a cutting implement.
Cold Steel.....just not crazy bout their designs.
Any blade not one handed operational.
Strider, Quarterbater, clones, Emerson & Medford.

I won't buy- China crap because it sucks, ZTs because they are just copies of the real things. Strider folders, had one and learned.

Interesting stance, care to explain?

Offtopic, what's with the hate against zombies here?
On this page alone there's a response from 2 guys called 'not a zombie fan' and zombieassassin :D

I love zombies. ZTs have always looked and felt like replicas and look alikes to me. Nowhere near the quality of the ones they try to look like....I.E. Hinderer for example.

Zombieassassin, that's because ZT collaborated with Rick Hinderer on several different models. They paid him to design some of their products. Same with Ernest Emerson, and Dmitry Sinkevich. ZT didn't simply "copy" their designs. They paid for and collaborated with the makers/designers to produce and manufacture them. I don't want to say you are but, you made a pretty sweeping generalization and you seem to be slightly misinformed. I hope you don't take this as insult but, these are the facts.

Don't like chisel grinds, overly thick blade stock, dainty tips, locking mechanisms requiring feats of acrobatics to use (I'm looking at you, CRKT), and anything over a few ounces.
