Knives you won't buy (and why)

 Wow, some of you guys are awfully specific!

Being very specific in knowing what is not wanted plays a key role in eliminating impulse purchases that require selling off if it's not to one's liking. Especially for sub-$20 knives that typically have little to no resale value (or even any willing buyers).

Although...I won't knowingly support clones and copies, but I didn't take that to be the question. We're talking about features, types, brands and style elements

Good point. I suppose, at least for myself, that my tastes involve a certain minimum standard, which excludes an admittedly vast niche of the market (such as clones, cheapos, etc.). I get the impression many enthusiasts, especially on Bladeforums, approach this hobby with a similar implied standard.

I'm a little down on those 3-D printed Titanium "Bird Cage" handles. The wind blows right through them.

Well...I include the maker or manufacturer of a knife as one of its features, and there are several of them I would not touch. In the interest of not causing any unpleasant sensations to the posterior regions of any fellow members, I won't go into specifics.

I will, as of right now, and I'm not saying these companies couldn't win me back in the future, I won't buy Smith & Wesson, Gerber, United Cutlery, Ridge Runner, Gil Hibbon, etc...
No more combo blades. I have one.
Almost no coated blades.
No folders that don't lock open.
No more huge fixed blades.
No more "throwing knives".
No fantasy knives.
No tactilol.
No cheapie switch blades.

Man, i wish there was a like/thumbs up option, I would like all posts that mention the ugly Spyderco design and liner locks :thumbdn:

This thread is so passive-aggressive, I love it lol

...the ugly Spyderco design...

I'm honestly surprised at all the Spyder-hate! I'm not a huge fan of many Spyderco models due to the fat pocket profile vs. usable blade length, but I don't outright hate them. Its a surprise to see so many mention disliking them...I thought it wasn't allowed on knife forums ;).

Flippers in general....can't explain it. Bad thing is there are some really nice quality flippers out there.

As for what I won't buy, it's like that guy said about porn: I know it when I see it.
I don't generally see myself wanting a giant tanto blade knife with a sawback, but there very well might be a crazy awesome one out there with the best handle ergonomics ever created by man, and steel that can chop trees for a week without sharpening, and then I'll have to get it!

So I think it's silly to write off entire companies and styles...except for Mantis, of course...they just suck. :D

Attacking success is a great way to create false self-esteem when one has accomplished nothing themself. ;)

That passive agressiveness tho

I am not a knifemaker, so I am not trying to promote my own business. I know that Spyderco has some of the best made knives out there, no doubt about that. Just not a fan of that hole.

I am not trying to start an argument here, but learn to respect other people's opinions. Narrowmindedness is the bane of progress.

No flippers that can t be opened by thumb hole or stud. No more waves. No more combo edges. No folders heavier than 6 oz, and few heavier than 5 oz. No steel less than 154cm. Rarely another knife costing more than 300.00.
