Knives you WON'T own anytime soon.

anything over $150...
any karambits...dont see a use
any machete...dont see a use
any fantasy knives...just dumb
anything thats is not from a popular company or has got bad reviews on BF

Most BudK knives, especially their fantasy knives.

Anything made with AUS 6 or 420 or 440A.

Any folder with a lock that doesn't...lock.

Any knife with a handle which allows the hand to slide onto the edge of the blade--ouch.

Knives with slippery polished stainless steel handles, see above.

i think mr cattleking is missing out on some superb solingen made knives? knives i would'nt own is anything from pakistan & anything with zytel, g10,kraton, or any other rubbers or plastc handles inc delrin/stagalon! if your buying knives to collect as an investment then you should be looking for fine handle materials like stags, pearls, bone, celluloids, silver, gold, & rare woods like eboney! as collecting is not using them! you just sit there & polish & oil em up every now & then! & hope that in 20 years time you can turn a tidy profit :D but using knives need to be durable & up to the job for which you wish to do. so zytel, g10, kraton & delrin come into their own! as most are very near indestrucable they are the ones to choose for your using knives! cheerz from the knifebloke ;)

I'm not buying the following:

- Gerber
- "fantasy" knives
- Chinese and Pakistan, especially if it's marked with an American name
- anything overtly marketed towards military-wannabes or cop-wannabes
- I generally steer clear of liner locks, but it's not a hard rule.
- I've do pay attention to steel types when shopping, but if the design is interesting or original, I don't entirely rule out low-middle-range steels as long as they're priced accordingly.
- I will never, ever buy an ugly knife
- "Commemoratives"

Most of your lists are entirely understandable, but this one has me stumped:
Anything Benchmade
Care to explain why? I only have one and it seems like a well-built, useful, and reasonably priced product.

Best Wishes,
Bob

....unless of course you are given them free !...... :D

No idea what that means. I got a Spyderco for free. If someone gave me one of the ones on my "NO" list for free I'd either not accept it or I'd pass it along to another person who would use it. :)

------------------------------------------

I should also add to my list some things I forgot.

-Anything over $60

-Fantasy knives

-Karambits

-Hawkbills

-Anything with a huge logo or large words on the blade (Spyderco Spyker comes to mind)

-Anything that says "combo edge" and has serrations on the entire knife except for the last 3/4".

-Any "safe queen". I buy my knives to use...not to sit around!!!

:)

Any knife more than $150, out of my price range.

Any serrated knife, too hard to sharpen.

Any double edge knife, doesn't fit my usage.

Balis and autos, can't carry 'em in CA.

Any super steel that requires diamonds to sharpen. I like easy touch ups.

Tactical prybars, doesn't fit my usage.

Any wallhanger, I don't have the room or money for a knife that doesn't earn its keep.

A folding or fixed blade tanto.I still just dont get the whole tanto blade in a folder or anything else.

  • Anything stamped "Pakistan"
  • Anything by Taylor Cutlery
  • Anything by Gerber and United Cutlery
  • Anything by any other company that I feel completely sucks
  • Any fantasy knife
  • Liner locks. I'm just not a fan of them
  • Daggers - by that I mean pointy double-edged knives that are only good for thrusting
  • Anything I consider overpriced. I'm not paying $100 for a knife made overseas with steel that's best suited for a butter knife
  • Folders with extremely thick blades. I'd rather have a good fixed blade like that if I wanted to use it extremely hard

Foreign junk cheapies
Overblown "tactical" stuff (Can you say DarkOps?)
Autos or balis--just a personal preference
Big multitools
Anything with lots of serrations
Hawksbill or similar
Fantasy knives
Punch daggers

Oh yeah, and anything moderately expensive. :)

Let's see:

- Cheaply built knives (regardless of their country of origin)
- Balisong (what's the point? flame away :) )
- Wall Hangers and fantasy knives
- "Clunky" designs
- Tip up designs
- Kerambits
- Knives with ceramic blades

That's pretty much it for now.

- Mark

Fantasies, overly thick bladed folders, knock offs..key chain knvies, credit card knives, belt buckle knife, keramabit

Combo Edge, bone handles, Franklin Mint

What's wrong with Brad Duncan?

Modified tantos are not for me. I have had a couple and do not care fro them at all.

Assisted opening knives don't appeal to me at all. I can open a knife that doesn't have this feature at least as fast as an assisted opening knife will open. The added mechanics just make for something else to go wrong.

There will be no more serrated blades in my future. They serve a purpose, but I just don't like them.

No knife with a coated blade will find its way into my collection. I like the look of naked steel and hate the look of coated blades.

I can't believe no one here (including myself) had mentioned Frost Cutlery :barf: . Back in the good old days when I had satellite, watching their infomercial with the two rednecks (the one smarter one, and the other that had to be drunk half the time), was one of my guilty pleasures ;) .

My won't buy list:

fantasy
tanto
auto's
assisted openers
cheap knock off/ripped off designs
knives poorly made with poor materials
double edged
boot knife
dagger
karambits
neck knife
customs

-Anything with a huge logo or large words on the blade
Add this to my list too. Yuck!

SAKguy, what you got against Benchmade? Just curious, since you specifically mentioned that brand by name.

-Bob

-Fantasy knives
-Antique folders/knives
-Junkie foreign knives
-Smith & Wesson knives
-"art" knives
-Knives worth more than my car
-Auto's (banned from carry pretty much everywhere)

-knives that are too pretty to use
-fantasy (Clingon) weapons
-anything China or Pak
-Damascus, it's just too dang expensive for me
-Stanley utility knives
-knives from Wal-Mart (Buck has their Wally World stuff made in China)
-any knife that won't hold an edge (I've had good luck with all walks of steels, it has as much to do with sharpening as anything)
-any knife with a blade under 4 inches, people need to be scared of you
-Ruko, Chinese Buck, Gerber, Ginsu (I don't need to cut my shoes up, thanks anyway)
-any knife with an uncomfortable handle
