Knock-Off, Counterfeit, Fake Bucks & The Americans Who Sell Them

Real 110 automatics are a relatively new thing. But for a long time craftsmen would but legit 110’s and convert them to automatics. Some were better than others. So not really counterfeits but conversions. Biggest problem is Buck wont service them.

I wonder if this is what you saw?

Additionally, there is a vendor by the depth of his inventory I would consider legit who "converts" Buck 110's. I have inquired if they service their conversions. If they do, I am tempted.

I don't know so I called Buck and from my description they said it was a fake.

Fake Buck 110's used to be generic Chinese lockbacks with fake markings, more recently they began putting some effort into their counterfeits but they are still pretty far off.

They have been making the 110 for almost 66 years at this point.

I saw that earlier today also. What a joke. The box alone screams FAKE!!

Shot Show must have started early as the new 2025 line of counterfeit Bucks keeps growing. The blade is extremely sharp since it is made out of surgical steel.

Holy crap.
I used to have this exact same knife 15 years ago as a teenager, it was branded TAC-FORCE instead of being a Buck knockoff and my dad bought it for me from the local flea market.

Are there any counterfeit 112 autos showing up. Ran across one on consignment that looks good with box, etc at what I would consider a good price. Looks just like the one on Buck’s website. Haven’t seen anything about these being faked but thought I’d ask. TIA

There have been a bunch of fake 110 and 112 autos on FB marketplace. They are using are stock videos and photos. I would be very cautious.

The fakes don't look very convincing at all if you've ever owned a Buck 110 or 112.

So what was the knife you got screwed on ?

We would love to see pictures of the knife in question. Many of us got taken one way or another in the past - it seems to be the nature of the hobby. We make transactions based on a few well-positioned photos and often need to make a split second decision before someone else scores. Or we pick up a knife out of a locked case in a flea market while the staff stands there watching you like a hawk. We wish there was more time to do some research but then your phone doesn't work inside the metal building. Sometimes we score and sometimes we get screwed.

Looks legit to me. Buck 110 with a 2009 date code (Buck uses a symbol after the model # for the year of production- 1986 to present).

Don't take my word for it, there are many members here who have years of experience ahead of me. Hopefully one of them will chime in.

The first one looks fake to me. The grind is too low and doesn’t pass through the nail nick. The second one looks fake also, but it is hard to see the grind due to the angle of the lighting. I would pass on both.

Yeah, it appears to be the same grind, just under the nail nick. As you said though, it's hard to tell from the lighting.

What made me suspicious is the tang stamps. They look kinda sloppy to me, most notably on the K in Buck, the dots in U.S.A., and the date code. And as far as I know the tail on the 2009 date code arrow shouldn't be that long? Again, this is all just me guessing though, which is why I'm here asking the experts
