Bad Koster's Kickstarter project

I ordered a knife from Koster in 2013. Paid in full (like a dumbass), and haven't received anything since. That's almost 7 years..... He's a crook in my book. Will not answer calls or respond to emails. Hell I waited patiently for in excess of 36 months before I even inquired. I was more than patient. But now I think it'd safe to say my money is gone and I'll never see a knife for it. Please learn from my mistake and don't give this guy ANY of your hard earned money.

It has been two months since Dan posted an excuse for why he cannot make the knives for which people paid him. I am eagerly awaiting his next post and excited to see what creative BS he will come up with this time.
Hahaha, I won't hold my breath waiting for Crooked Koster to update, but I do check in to the kick-starter page once in a while to see if he has. (Kind of like watching a train wreck....I'm repulsed, yet I can't look away!) I think he only responds to threats of legal action. I don't know how that self righteous, lying POS sleeps at night knowing how many people he has ripped off. I hope karma bites him in the ass good and hard someday.

No communication at all from Dan in Kickstarter since I made a report here about the Bushcraft folder I received.
I hope he isn't mad at me
I would hate it if he use this to explain the delay : "I was ready to build the knives but then I saw this post on BladeForum from that French guy and it destroyed all my motivation!"

:D:D:D

Dan just posted that he has finished another knife. Way to go Dan! You are such a hard worker and an inspiration to craftsmen everywhere.

Assuming that he is telling the truth, and assuming that he will continue to make knives at his current pace, it will take him about 8 more years to complete the Kickstarter knives. Who knows when he will finish to other knives he owes to customers...

Not bad considering?:rolleyes::eek:

I was prompted by a post in W & C to check Koster's activity with the Better Business Bureau. It appears that the one customer who filed a complaint with BBB got a partial refund in 2017 as Koster actually responded to it. I think the Attorney General's office in AR would be a better bet. If they got flooded with complaints from people Koster has ripped off, they would contact him. Usually a form letter asking for his response to the complaint. Not sure if anyone has gone this route yet and if so and nothing came of it, I apologize for this post.

Add me to the list. Ordered a bushcraft fixed blade from him August 2015. Honestly forgot about it until I saw this thread. From reading this thread I'm just going to chalk it up as a lesson learned. Hope some of the others either get their knife or their money back.

I'm in the same boat as you. Paid a deposit in 2013 and have yet to get a reply to any correspondence. He even listed me as having placed an order with NO deposit on his now non-existent 'Orders spreadsheet'. I wish I had come across infomation about his reputation before I paid the deposit.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this, also.

"But at least I can say Mr Koster eventually delivered the two knives I ordered from him."

May I ask when you ordered the fixed blade? I ordered the same knife over 6 years ago. When I asked for a refund after a 5 year wait here's the response I got:

"I'm still making knives. Deposits were always non-refundable material purchases. You are welcome to wait out your spot, sell it to someone else or walk away. I did not force you to place a non-refundable deposit. I got bogged down by lots of different things - but I am doing my best to get things done and make them right. The knives I am making now are much better quality than when you originally placed your order. And as you can see - many others are still patiently waiting to get theirs."

Well, another year has passed and no knife, no communication. I still have all the emails from 6 years ago when he estimated delivery in 6 to 12 months. Now Dan has moved on to selling knives thru a Kickstarter project. He collected over $22,000 thousand dollars and three years later he's only delivered a couple knives. I understand that things happen and delivery dates get pushed back but this guy has a pretty long history of taking peoples money and never delivering.

Anyone else out there still waiting for a knife order from the past 6 years? Since Dan's knife order update page has been taken down and his Kickstarter project is years overdue, I can only assume he's pretty much abandoned the orders he took years ago. Perhaps it's time for legal action. jc

I had to check in on the Kickstarter page and the last post made almost a month ago by a disgruntled backer amused me and made me feel bad about that at the same time....

“Averaging one knife per year upto now, if you manage to keep up this blistering pace I think most of us will have long expired before we get them, Merry Christmas.”

One of the kickstarter backers, when responding to Crooked Koster’s post on the Kickstarter page advising he is actually working on their knives again said:

“Does it not bother you what all the forums say about you, if only we'd read them before ordering.”

I think the only thing that might bother Dishonest Dan is that potential customers might be scared away if they learn of his shenanigans and his reputation on here of being a liar and a thief.
