Earlier today I received a phone call from Gus letting me know that Ken Erickson was presented with the "Best Folder" Award for his horseman's knife at the 2012 Blade Show.

This is a wonderful tribute and honor to a maker that I have the great pleasure of calling "friend".

Consistent with Ken's modesty and lack of pretense, it took a little bit of arm twisting and encouragement from Gus to get Ken to submit his knife for judging.

Interestingly enough, it was one of our other great maker/members, Richard Rogers, who first congratulated Ken. When Ken asked "for what?", Richard informed him that he had won the best folder award. I'd like to have been there to see if Ken levitated up out of his seat. :p

Anyway, I couldn't be more proud of Ken for winning, Gus for being who he is and providing the encouragement, and Richard for being the gracious bearer of great news.

This forum has a lot to be proud of.

Congrats, Ken!!! The award couldn't have gone to a better man...let alone "maker".:thumbup:

Excellent! Well deserved. As has been stated elsewhere, that knife is a masterpiece.

Congratulations, this knife truly represents a quality craftsmanship, such as in Sheffield in its great days.

I see a new knife in my wife's future:D

Congratulations! That's a fantastic accomplishment.

Well done Ken. I must say, I'm not entirely surprised.
What a gorgeous knife.

Thanks for sharing that Elliott, and congrats to Ken for the well deserved award.
Kudos to Gus as well, for encouraging Ken to submit the knife. That one truly is a work of art

That's great news. Congratulations to a great guy and a great knifemaker for a well deserved honor.

Very nice. Isn't that the knife Ken showed us a couple/three months ago for our comments prior to going to Blade? One heck of a job.

I remember how stunned I was, looking at the pic of that knife when it turned up a while back in a thread here (linked in Blues' post above). It's amazing, and I'm not surprised at all at this good news.

Well done!
