My wife hates the Spyderco FRN handles. She says it feels like it's biting into her fingers when a bit of force is used. I've never tried Benchmade's plastic. The only Benchmades I have are G10 and CF handles.
I don't mind the weight, either. I have the ZT 0456 and 0456BW and love them. A lot of people say they are too heavy, but I like the heft.
I've also been reading up more on CruWear and I think that as long as a little common sense is used, it should be a great blade steel.
You can order the black clip and screws from Spyderco's store if you want them. If I remember correctly, they aren't very expensive.
Sorry your knife is taking a very long and unnecessary round about trip to get to you.
I would actually have an extra black clip if I would have thought to take it off my Domino when I sent it in for a tune up. They replaced the old one, which was literally perfect(no scratches, I know, I know.. impossible!), haha. I was kicking myself when it returned with a new clip and my old one disappeared, though they did an absolutely incredible job concerning my Domino so I couldn't stay mad at Spyderco.
Now CruWear seems like the perfect middle man. Insane toughness, great edge retention, and really good corrosion resistance(for a tool steel at least). I actually expect it to be somewhat similar to CTS-XHP, which I may be way off, but they were both destined to be a improved version of D2(XHP going in the stainless direction). I've read good things about it, and I'm pretty pumped to give it a whirl. If it was in the PM2 platform, I may have passed on it(plus it'd be like 40% more expensive), but the Manix should carry that steel amazingly.
And I appreciate your sympathy, haha. As long as it comes tomorrow I'd be happy, but if I have to wait through the weekend I'd be kind of annoyed. Shite happens, so now all I can do it wait.
Oh yeah I forgot to mention that Benchmade's Valox(I think that's what mine is) doesn't bite into the skin like Spyderco's FRN. I actually know exactly what you wife means. Granted all I own from Benchmade is their Ritter mini, but I could squeeze it with all my might without that issue. It's because it's a little more rounded and the texture is smoother than Spyderco's.
