Large folder vote thread.

Some random thoughts: Beware the CAMEL! The adage about the "Camel" being a "horse designed by committee" keeps haunting my dreams about the large/mega Spyderco. Design parameters are okay but not to the extent that it starts unduly influencing the designer. As such, I am reluctant to say anything further than my first post on the Large Folder thread. Whether the design will be developed in-house, by a collaborating artist (maker), or both is also intriguing. Cough! (Pirella) Cough!

I'm with toothed,

After looking at what everyone has to say, we can all agree that we dissagree. Not everyone favors a certain lock. Not everyone favors a certain blade steel. Not everyone favors a certain grind.

My vote is that the blade shuold just be bigger. We want a mega folder. Most folks who are fans of those like them to be 5+ inches. After that, just make sure that the knife carries the same quality we've come to expect and respect Spyderco for. It'll be one badass knife no matter what.

Good luck and God bless those who will make this one. I'll buy one....or two :)

Handle Material
Burgendy Linen Micarta with dual steel liners and steel back spacer.
The burgendy micarta really glows an orangy/red in bright sunlight (beautiful) and the steel liners/back-spacer are for looks as much as strength.
Perhaps even exotic burled wood with the same steel work. Would make for a heck of a unique sprint run.
If the large blade is for hard use, then either black G-10 or canvas micarta.

Blade Pattern
Leaf (Military). IMHO looks and works best for larger blades. Spearpoint (to me) looks clunky on a large blade, and the clip-point is often seen on fighting blades.

Blade Grind.
Full Flat. No question.

Lock type
Compression lock would be my favourite, as slick as a liner lock, all the stregnths (and more) of a lock back.
Please NOT the ball lock. It's a really strong lock, but can be difficult to close in wet/cold weather, where a larger knife is more often used.

Flat grind
Clip or Spear point
Front lock or Compression (The stronger the better)
G-10 handles. (Color preferred, black OK)

Blade pattern:
Leaf (Military/Temperance)
Wharncliffe would be my #2 choice

Why no frame lock?

Other suggestion:
A mega Military or folding Ronin would be neat.

5-5.5" blade.

Flat grind.

Clip point.

Front lock.

G-10 handles. A dark color, not neccesarily black.

Tip-up

Oh baby, is this REALLY going to happen? :)

I like the idea of a folding bowie, with 5 to 5.5" clip blade(spear point would work too).

Flat grind, of course. Either VG10 or S30V. Heck, why not BG42?

Carbon fiber handle, dual liners for sure.

Tip down.
