Large sebenza blade wiggle problem

For curiosity sake-was there any blade play before you started fooling with it.
Regardless it became your problem once you fooled with it.

Doesn't CRK re tumble blades for like $15-$25? I'd just get them to stonewash the blade, fit new new washers and pivot bushing. That would eliminate the need to install a new blade and save you a few bucks.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they will only re tumble a used/un modified blade. The reason they can't refurbish modified parts is they can no longer vouch for the integrity of modified part.

No i sanded the bushing down to try to fix the blade wiggle idk if you know how the bushing/washer works but if the bushing is too long then you'll have blade play and if your washers are to thick then its not going to be as smooth.

The knife is perfect I'm just nit picking here but for a 400+ knife it should bee perfect.. and there is no Play its just wiggle like you have to firmly wiggle the blade to feel it and its not there always..

The blade is what voids the warranty its sand blasted.

Problem is the modded blade must have taken just a minute amount of metal from the washer/pivot area or the modder sanded the washers to "make it buttery smooth" and took too much material off, which will induce play, and sanding the washers to make it smooth leaves space between the bushing and handles and washers aka 'play'
By sanding the bushing you will aggravate the problem unless you sand the back spacer and stop collar the same amount. Just doing the bushing will cause the handles to not be square with the pivot assembly which would make it seem smooth sometimes and tight other times; depending on how hard you crank down the screws.

Unfortunately the knife was modded in a way which crk will most likely not honor the warranty as the mod affects the general performance of the knife. But this isn't a warranty issue, so you will have to fork over $135 to get a new blade/washer/pivot bushing installed.

For the record, there was no functional problem with the knife when I mailed it. The internals, including the bushing, screw threads, stop pin, and the entire contact area of the knife were all untouched. The blade area around the washers was factory stonewash. Nothing internal was touched.

The only modifications to the knife were cosmetic.

I have a very, very long email thread on this entire ordeal with Sunny and it seems he had no idea what a CRK should be like.

He sanded the washers because he wanted the blade to "free fall" closed. The "blade wiggle" he mentioned, by his own words, was him taking an opened knife and forcing the blade to bend back and forth holding the tip. There was no rock, no wiggle. And his emails before he started messing with it attest to that.

If necessary, I can publish the entire email and PM message history. I don't plan on waging an Internet war on CRK's forum, though. Wrong sub forum.

No i didn't say sometimes it smooth and sometimes its not i what i said was sometimes there is completely no blade wiggle and sometimes the is just a slight wiggle thats all.. and in the CRK vid on youtube on blade hq channel you can see the dude sanding the bushing down without sanding the back spacer etc..

when i got the knife from you i cleaned it and it free fall without sanding anything lol i didn't sand the washers or bushing to make it smoother

That is one of the problems with buying knives that have been user modified..Nothing can be certain with them.

First and last F*** that

This is a family friendly forum and we can do without that language here.

By you modifying the knife further, you may have done more harm than good..The best you can do is send it in with a note, hoping that they will be willing to fix the issue with it.

I believe bhyde's quote is about 100% correct. Anything modded there will be uncertainty.

Also I read your post wrong, I thought your issue was some positions there was wiggle some there werent, which sounded to me like the something wasn't sitting square.

The guy at CRK doing the initial sanding is to get it just 'right' there will be a point where sanding too much will cause things to not be square or in spec anymore which will have to be replaced, once material has been removed you can sand it back on.

Hey Sonny, in case you don't know, sassing a mod is not a good thing here on BFC, bhyde is a mod for the CRK forum. His name isn't red because it matches his scarf, red indicates mod status.
And, bhyde, may on occasion work closely with CRK on projects. I'm just saying.
The question I have is, concerning the blade play, is like with light pressure or like white knuckle pressure????? With enough force, I can make any of my CRK's have blade wiggle.
Since you sanded the pivot bushing, did you sand the blade stop and back spacer also???? Did you measure how much you took off????
If I was a betting man, I'd bet, the pivot bushing, blade stop and back spacer are all the same length. What you do to one, you should to the others.

I sanded the washers on one of my sebenza's to get it where I like. You need to use 2000 grit on a perfectly flat surface and do a very small mount at a time.then strop the washers smooth. If you go to far you get blade play and I would not personally try and sand the bushing to overcome the blade play. I would send it in for a new set of washers knowing it was my fault it has play and pay for the washers ect. Once you start messing with the bushing your asking for centering/fitment issues.

Oh i didn't know that sorry... And about the blade wiggle pressure its always different sometimes you have to press really hard and sometimes even when you do press really hard there is no wiggle.. And no i didn't sand the blade stop or back spacer down Should it?

No dear god stop sanding hardware. You didn't need to do any of this in the first place. Stop the bleeding and send the damn thing off to CRK. When you get it back, resist the urge to sand any part of your knife.

i have had 3 others Sebenza and sanded them all to my liking but NEVER had one like this that had play SOMETIMES lol it makes no sense plus when i move the blade there is slack without even making the blade move I'm not new to sebenzas I've owned them for over 3 years

Im honestly just going to keep it like this its not worth 160 bucks to fix cause there is VERY slight blade wiggle and you have to but quit a bit of pressure..
