I was opening some mail with a Vic. Spartan with the small blade and my thumb wasn't quite far enough out of the way when I went to close it. Got a nice little gash on the side of my thumb, which bled quite a bit considering how small it was.

Bark River Cumberland Trail Proto...as I was cleaning it, I had rinsed it with soap and water and was applying a bit of Balistol with a cloth and...zap...right across the ball of my left thumb.

Not very deep...but it could have been I never felt it.

Don't have pics but I has playing with my para millie and accidentally ran it across my index finger. I knew it was a good slicer but Damn! Bled a lot for such a small nick too.

pedicabdriver,

As crazy as it sounds, the same exact thing happened to me about a week ago. I was closing the small blade on my Tinker, and my pinky wasn't far enough away. That little cut just bled and bled. Real fun trying to run a phone line under a house and not drip blood all over myself.

I also seem to find myself getting bitten by the awls on the alox models. I guess I forget how sharp the tips can be on those things.

Case Yellow Sodbuster Jr. in CV. First night I got it. Came in late after a few beers. I was stropping off the factory grind with 1000 grit sand paper and mouse pad. Cleaning off the blade, it cut right through the rag. Cut a nice chunck of my finger tip off!! Now I am much more cautious. M

One of my RAZOR sharp Browing Ice Storms. I was repetetively opening and closing it one handed and the blade knicked the tip of my thumb upon closing and sliced a skin sample right off the end of my thumb . . .

That VG-10 is some awesome steel. Gets super sharp!

An old 440C Benchmade Pika while I was out in WA a week ago. Cutting a bagel in the hotel room and the tip juuuuuust got me as I finished the cut.

RAT 4, I was cleaning it and I went to cut some leather. It cut to fast, and it went straight into my middle finger, bled alot.

i was visiting some friends in florida and i was trying out my friends BM Morpho which unbeknownst to me he had attempted to sharpen the tip of the unsharpened edge and i sliced my first finger knuckle pretty good nothing too serious but it hurt like hell. so remember always test both edges before you flip!

cheers!

man, I got bit just now after seeing this thread! It was the serration on my RC3, got my left thumb, it was burning for a minute too.

It's funny that you posted this because like a moron I accidently cut myself yesterday at a local knife store with a Benchmade HK Nitrous Blitz. Luckily the salesman didn't notice it but it was still sooo embaressing. When I was closing the knife one handedly, I didn't have my thumb out of the way and the blade just sunk into my thumb hardcore. It sliced into my thumb on an angle and it bled like a mofo. I was able to apply pressure to it with my other fingers on the same hand to stop the bleeding all while keeping it hidden from the salesman. And what's even funnier is that I took pictures of it when I got home too. Then I washed it out really good with alcohol and put a SpongeBob band-aid on it. ALL BETTER! It still hurts when I put pressure on it and it's amazing how important your thumb is. But I have found that soaking a wound in alcohol regularly helps tremendously to get it healed in a hurry. It of course keeps it clean and kills germs but it also dries it out which I think speeds up healing. A few years ago I had stabbed my palm and it healed in an amazingly short time because I washed it in alcohol twice a day.

A Tops Scout I was sharpening, was sitting down, set it om my leg, reached to pet a dog and it slid off and onto my foot..barefoot, wearing sandals of course :(

Went in between my toes, slicing one open, talk about bleeding ! Limped into the kitchen, trailing blood, applied some cayenne pepper and wrapped it up. Decided the Scout was sharp enough and put it away, lol

Funny you mention the Vic. Spartan, as that too was the last knife that got me pretty good. I had just picked one up as a gift for a friend, and was wiping away fingerprints and oils when I accidentally closed the large knife down on my forefinger. Needless to say, that hurt pretty bad. I was almost sure I was going to need to bring out the superglue, but it stopped bleeding on its own.

Wow, alot of you guy have had the folding knives chomp your fingers,I've never had that happen! I have, however, had a Ka-bar KB1278 which has kraton handles some how slip out of my hand and become airborne (higher than my hand) when I was transitioning from a hammer grip into an icepick grip it came down just above the base of my thumb and cut deep the blood gushed. The funny thing about that story was I had a premonition of the aftermath of the cut the day before.

Boker Subcom. Just couldn't clear my thumb away from the blade tip after opening it. Bit me every time so I gave it away.
