Late model muscle....?

I would go to the local Chevy,Dodge,Pontiac,Ford dealerships and see what they offer in sports cars.Test drive them all and compare specs.Personally, I'm not a fan of the import sports cars, but it's your choice.

AWESOME rides! With Ford dying in the US, my only question is, why aren't they importing some of these models? Good stuff for sure.

my guess would be emission laws

Subaru and Mitsubishi seemed to do okay bringing over the EVO and WRX though

The Ariel Atom does 0-60 in under three seconds!!
0-100 is something like six seconds.

Of course is speed is what your after, the Suzuki Hayabusa would absolutely spank any car that's been listed. And for a fraction of the price of anything that's been listed.
0-60, 2.67 seconds
0-100, 5.3 seconds
1/4 miles, 9.9 seconds
top speed stock, 186mph
Over 200mph is possible with simple inexpensive mods
250+ mph is possible with extensive modification
price brand-new, $11,149

might spank some cars in the 1/4 mile and 0-60 but lotsa stuff runs +186, my old corvette will run around 170 (it hits overdrive drive @ 140 FWIW) and the new vettes and vipers run right at or over 200. hyabusas are cool though, i dont ride bikes anymore myself i have lost way too many buds. but agreed they are fast AND cheap,

i also like the new GTOs, i am fixing to give my son my impala and am gonna get something for everyday and have been considering the GTO, also the dodge daytona with the high HP hemi.

lotsa neat stuff for sale these days, all ya need is $$.

Word has it that the "BMW M5" is IT!!!

Just remember to pack a good supply of diapers should you choose to push it..........

Most fun car I ever drove- Boxster if you go back 5 yrs not TOO expensive(but expensive to service).

My (unresearched) guess as to most bang for the buck- last few years of the Firebirds- a guy at work had one of the hot models and it was truly impressive. -Also, as mentioned new GTO

What I bought- 2003 BMW 3 series with the Performance (not Sport) package- barely a tick behind the Boxster for fun, but bulletproof (has been for me), practical everyday driver. I test drove everything I could think of as "fun to drive" for three weekends and this is the car that won out for me (that I could afford). About 5.6 0-60, but that just doesn't tell the story- amazing, confidence inspiring handling that has already literally saved my life. I now go to work at 5:00am so I can drive the freeways over 100 (interchanges at 90 are also fun). Great car.

The G35 was very close- such great styling- but check the maintenance schedule- they want it in for service (stressed "SERVICE-not just oil change") every 3,750 miles- BMW goes in every 15,000 miles!

I've watched some of the import dyno vids on youtube and it look like they make max HP for a total of 1 second at about 8K or 9K rpm. I'd hardly call those muscle cars. One shot wonders maybe.

IMO you want torque, forget the ricers, look for displacement.

DaveH so true, so true.

most of the roads here are stlll not race worthy but the LS2 powered malibu absolutely ATE a hopped up acura last night. We were behind for about a second and ahalf off the light, but then the HP took over and we shot past him in less than a block. plus the cost add in too. the old adage is "the only substitute for cubic inches is cubic dollars."

the aforementioned STi comes from Subaru with 300 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm

it's not as much as a GTO, but it doesn't weigh as much either

Think about a Mitsu Starion (Chrysler Conquest) They can be found for great money, are highly tweakable/tuneable, and are super cool cars!
You don't see alot of them around anymore and people always look at it and say "What is that?"

Agree, if torque is the goal. "There's no replacement for displacement." It also makes for smoother long-distance cruising.

There is a trade-off though. Big engines tend to come in big cars, which handle like big fat pigs in the twisties. There are exceptions of course, the 'Vette immediately comes to mind.

So you want to drive like this:

or like this:

The horsepower and torque monsters are champs of the straight-line. But they'd fly off into space if they tried to take a corner at the speed of a lightweight.

I dunno, I consider the Corvette a pretty big car, especially for a 2-seater. Driving a 72' made my 4-door Altima seem like a Miata. That's the only Corvette I have driven though (sad)

It is much heavier and larger than a Miata or S2000, but it has a reputation for holding the corners as well as a lightweight. The 'Vette has a very low center of gravity, incredible weight/power ratio, great suspension, near-perfect aerodynamics, and good front-to-rear weight balance.

What I'd do is pick up a dodge pickup with a cummins 5.9 diesel, maybe an older 12 valve engine and mod that.

I rode in a guys mildly tuned 12 valve some years ago, I think he just had the pump turned up, and it was pretty wild ride. I imagine with injectors, controller, etc. they are crazy insane.

lets see...your Acura is 1.4 liters, and my Mountain Dew is 2 liters...
The cars zipping through the road track in the photos above are the Honda S2000. That has a 2-liter engine (depending on the model year), so it's actually the same size as your Mountain Dew.

BTW, if you drink that much soda pop regularly, you may not fit into a Honda S2000. Aside from physical comfort, the car's weight limit (including passengers, luggage, and accessories) is 400lbs.
