LB7 Bear Paw LB Survey

I apparently have a first year of production/serial numbering of the LB7. It is a 4 pin with what appear to be rosewood bolsters and is marked as follows:

SCHRADE+
U.S.A. LB7

S/N is 9106 I believe but it also reads 9016 if read with the open blade pointed to the left! Just the fact that the serial number can be read either way and reads fine is interesting. The 1 is stamped as a straight vertical line and the 9 and 6 look identical except for orientation. Just for giggles my house address number is 1001 which reads the same in both directions and whether read right side up or upside down!

That's "9106" then. Read serial when oriented as in pic below, serial AA65958. Your's is an early example for sure. Cool knife. Enjoy!

Very COOL serial number. Just for more giggles, spell "racecar" backwards. ;)

My dad and I each got a LB7 for Christmas back in the early to mid 80's. He put them up in his gun cabinet and they sat for the last 30 years. I just picked them up from mom and gave the brass a good polish.

Both are 4 pin, still in the original boxes with paperwork.

^^ NICE! ^^
Sort of like a time capsule, eh Mickey? :) Sounds like your Dad is no longer around though? :(
PS, WELCOME to the forum.

Thanks!

Sort of. I had a couple hundred pocket knives I collected as a kid. I picked them up from my mom's about 4 years ago and a few of them rusted and the scales were ruined. I picked out a few special ones then cleaned up the other and sold them. I'd rather other people enjoy them instead of the rotting away.

Here are few pictures I uploaded awhile back http://www.flickr.com/photos/24590210@N08/

Yeah dad's been gone for quite awhile now. I gave my son the first knife he bought me and gave my daughter the first one I bought. Then I kept a few that I could tell dad carried and a set that my uncle gave me.

Very nice knives you have. And very good pictures of the knives. I really like the Frontiers as I have collection of over 100 Frontiers.

just won this one serial number 4184. obvious 4 pin. it lowers my serial number to 4 digits which i pretty cool at least i think so.

I have a Shrade USA + LB7 no serial number. Question, there is a small hole next to the butt revitt only on one side (does not go through, shallow hole) what is that for? The knife has 4 small pins in the handles, two rivetts in the butt and one in the front plus this small shallow hole between the butt rivetts nearer to the back rivett.

as far as i know and in looking at my one or two LB7's this is probably put there after manufacture of the knife. none of my knives have this additional hole. does it look like it has been drilled?

I don't think the hole is factory, but I could be wrong. Also, I'm curious about when they had no serial numbers on the LB7? Was this towards the end of Schrade as a company?

Schrade quit serializing them long before the company closed because they were made in such massive quantities. They had already run thru the alphabet prefixes once and started on double alphas when they ended serializing.

The "socketlike" hole is perplexing. Perhaps someone drilled it to help with a task. Like pushing a heavy needle thru canvas. A "thimble-knife". I don't think it is a factory feature.

the none serial numbered 4 pin knives were the replacement knives for lost serial numbered knives. i have a none serial number 4 pin knife. plus was the very happy recipient of a replacement knife in 1980.

Now that makes perfect sense. Thank you. :)

Hi. New member. Registered to contribute to ths great thread.
Got my first Schrade yesterday. My dads LB7. He's not been using it much the last couple of years, so he thought I could give it a good home.

#Y91315
3 pin
Uncle Henry
SCHRADE+
LB7 U.S.A.

Brown leather sheath with SCHRADE stamped into the flap, and double SCHRADE logo on the metal pressdown button.

My dad did not remember what year he got it, but from what I've read in earlier in the thread I'm thinking somewhere around 1985. Could this be about right?

The colour of the of the wood is differs on the sides. Right side(same side as the serial number) is light brown, like a lot of the other LB7's you've posted here.
The left side is a lot darker. Can almost look black if not viewed in good light.

Is this normal on these? The knife have never been damaged/repaired.
