Hi Dave, I removed that link - sorry about that- it will not happen again.
I have a PH1 and a PH2, both knives are well marked "USA".
As a child, I quickly found the people that lived in the United States of America, where very proud people.
I also learned quickly, everything they made, was proudly marked U.S.A. … Ken

I thought I'd post the back of a recent Smoky Mountain Knife Works catalog for those who haven't seen it. It refers to the old USA Schrade Sharpfinger and PH2 blades finished with new wood handles that are currently flooding the market. The "...over 1 million work-in-progress blades...": Wow, that's a lot of blades! The very "last remaining"? I doubt it. Last 900,000 more likely. I expect we will continue to see knives like these show up for many years to come.

At least SMKW tells you straight what they are and doesn't try to pass them off as true pre-2004 Schrades like some less ethical ebay sellers. These knives when sold on ebay in incorrect original USA Schrade packaging can be a very deceptive item.

Hi Dave, What should I look for on the PH2 for being original?
-Bruce

Someone else will have to speak to the correct packaging and paperwork as I think it probably changed at least once.

As far as the knife goes look for jet black delrin handles and larger rivets than on the "new" SMKW knives. Any original USA Schrade SFO PH1 knives with wood handles will most likely have a blade etch or handle shield etc. and not just plain wood handles. A lot of UH167 fillet knives are showing up as well after receiving their new "offshore" handles. They are a bit easier to spot at a glance though because the "new" ones use brass and the original UH167s were all nickel silver.

Ken, it would be nice to see the entire knife of the original Loveless PH 1. And what is it's OAL ? Larger than the much more common PH 2 i think.

Well, I'm afraid mine might be one of the re-handled over seas ones, but I will submit images of it for you guys to help.
When I bought two of these from the big auction site they were billed as a find of pre 2004 knives.

And a closer shot of the inscription.

Thanks Ken. Those pics. are a Big help. It's the first time i have seen the D'holder and the Loveless PH1 and The PH2 all lined up together. There's enough similarities in blade profile to confuse these knives if you've never seen a group picture.

Bruce, I think you your knife is a legit Ellenville product if I had to guess. Rivet size is what is driving this.

Just to keep the lingo constant: The correct name for the original 1975 Schrade-Loveless knife is "RL-2".

Nice pic Ken. I too enjoy comparison photos!

Hello everyone. Nice forum.

It's my father's 60th birthday in August and I'm on the hunt to get him a Schrade Old Timer 125OT Mustang knife, but I'm nervous about getting ripped off with a Chinese knock off (post 2004) knife with inferior steel. There are many currently on ebay but I'm just not sure what I need to look for. Any ideas? Looks like many of you are pretty smart about these knives.

My dad had this knife back when I was a kid in the 80's but he lost it on a camping trip one Summer. He was pretty upset about it and I thought that getting another one for him would be a great idea. I was fascinated by the knife as a little boy!

Any help will surely be appreciated!

Hi from Australia, There is a Schrade 125OT for sale on A.A.P.N. at a members shop and it looks quite OK (not perfect)
Just look at all the Schrade knives for sale there - That one is a little over $100. - There is also a nice 124UH same knife with diferent handles.
http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/aapk_stores/index.php?category=7

There is also one on eBay for "Buy it Now $145"
I would think that is about the price you will pay for the best knife around (as new in a brown box paperwork ect ect) # 290705556168 .
I would ask the seller if that was the best price he could do for that knife...NOT everyone is looking for that knife, at that price! ... Ken

Make sure it has SCHRADE U.S.A. 125OT on the stamp. As far as I know, this is the only stamp they used on the 125OT.

Also Ken, the 124UH is a bit different pattern, with a shorter length, stainless steel blade, and no linerlock.
