Least amount you would spend$$$$$ ???

Define abuse Bro

and I would never trust my life to a knife a Boy could break

Mora's are the best $10 you can get--No Question

But I would never stake my life on one

Not your "bro."

Any "boy" can break any knife. You're looking at one isolated case.

Before asking your main question you ask others. I also think the scenario needs tightening up in order to answer it to your satisfaction.

My answer is an ESEE3 because I have one, and it cost me £100. But I would be happy using a £10 Mora or my £25 Wenger.

Also, for every broken Mora I'm sure we can post a picture of a broken full tang knife. So I'm not sure what that proves...

I'm not sure how to respond...as I'm not sure you are serious

I know what I want to say....but

Just trying to be polite

Bro is a friendly term --most people would not get offened

Sorry if I offended you--and please accept my sincere apology

AND YOU STILL HAVE NOT DEFINED ABUSE OR THE AMOUNT YOU WOULD SPEND

IF YOU CAN NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION CORRECTLY--WHY POST AN ANSWER AT ALL???

Why all the hostility boys?? it's just a theoretical thread...I was under the impression we where all brothers of sorts here, Sharing a common interest and a community...I guess I;ve been living under false pretenses... any whoo.... back to the subject at hand........

Sorry I thought the Beckers were 1095.Thats what I get for thinking.:D

O.K. 5160 it is. I guess what I was getting at is.Was it a steel thing or a money thing.I know you were talking about price. But to me that kinda means what steel.
The way I look at it the higher grade steel will cost more. But you also said which one would you bet your like on.

New Beckers are 1095--which is an Excellent Steel.

I would trust the New Beckers as well

What you USUALLY get with a higher price tag-is better QUALITY control

I posted a simple question with a simple answer

Then this man takes offense to me calling him Bro???

You need to toughen him up some Rescue:thumbup:

I think you're flipping out over nothing. If the responses to the vaguely defined scenario you posed don't satisfy you, perhaps you should redefine it?

OR AT LEAST STOP USING ALL CAPS....

No, I was quite serious. Which part are you having difficulty with?

this Part my friend

"Also, for every broken Mora I'm sure we can post a picture of a broken full tang knife. So I'm not sure what that proves..."

My answer is no you can't --not even close.(Unless they are cheap $5 ones made overseas)

Mora's can not take abuse like a fixed blade can

They are not designed to take abuse.

I have several--but not any I would risk my life on.

Ontario SP49 GenII in 5160. $75.00 is about the minimum I would spend to get a knife I could depend on.

Look everyone here KNows I love me a good mora... I;ve used them as my belt knives for years.. and have put them to work... But there is no debating a full tang knife is stronger than a half tang, hidden tang, or stick tang... don;t got to be a steel snob to realize that... Moras are strong.. and if I had a hatchet or machete along for the ride, than a mora would certainly have a place on a lanyard around my neck.. But as a stand alone tool For me a full tang knife is the way to go... I believe the author is trying to illustrate his opinion on that as well, but for some reason it was met with oppostion,
he mentioned that moras are great but that he wouldn't trust his life on them and presented photographic evidence of why...His choice his perogative.. If your inclined to disagree.. that's yours.. But no'ones trying to pee in your cheerios... If you depend on your mora.. than I salute you... No worries..It;s just a thread..God forbid we where placed into the illustrated scenario, maybe you'd be using that mora to cut strips of jerky from my hypothermic corpse.. No way of knowing.. but what ever knife you choose.. make sure you use it.. and own your skills I don't think there is any debating that..
Just for the record. my choices would remain the same regardless of location.

Outstanding Post!!!!!

I posted this question as I do most of the others to get people to think about what they do and why...

Your choices mean NOTHING to me--unless you can back them up with LOGIC and FACTS....

How you FEEL about a knife is useless to me(as how I feel about a knife is USELESS to you)

I want you to THINK about what you carry and why-based on facts --not emotion

If you make a statement that a Mora is as likely to break as a fixed blade knife-you better have changed the laws of Physics first to allow that statement to be correct.

And if my calling you Bro upsets you----you do not know how lucky you are that I in fact consider you worthy of calling you one.

Sincerely

Dr.Bill

I haven't read the other responses yet, but I will. I wanted my answer to be unvarnished.

Here in Central Brazil I feel I can do everything I need to do with a Tramontina Machete and a wood handled Mora #2.

My current machete of choice is one I cut down into a golok profile and added my combo edge and spine mods. I also strengthened the handle with a micarta wrap. When I'm in the bush this blade easily performs 80% of the work I have to do and covers all the hard use tasks such as batonning or cutting hardwood. I use the mora for all the small detail cutting tasks and because the machete is right there I don't ever have to beat on this knife.

I have other knives I like better such as my Skookum Bush Tool and my Brusletto. Both of these are strong knives that handle very well but in reality they take it to a higher degree than is strictly necessary, especially when paired up with the machete.

Between the modified golok including the sheath I made for it and the #2 I figure I have about $40 into the pair. I just had them out this week for some serious bushcraft practice and they did great. Mac

It wouldn't be just of me to comment on the Mora or Sak because I don't own a Mora yet(someday I will) and the only SAK I have is a small key chain model. I own a few Beckers, Rangers, Ka-Bars, and a CS mini bushman ranging from around $30 for the Mini Bushman to $150 for the satin RD9(An impulse buy. Great knife, but wouldn't do it again). The Mini Bushman is a nice knife(back-up pack knife), but my go-to is my Ranger Shiv. Think it cost me around $50(can't remember the exact cost). I like it. Does what I ask. My RD9 and BK9 are nice choppers, but too big for me when it comes to smaller tasks. My BK11. Nice and small. I use it for light chores. My Ka-Bar Warthog is my "beat the snot out of" knife. I keep it in the Jeep. So to answer your question. Do "I" need to spend a lot of money? No. I can't afford the higher price stuff like Busse, Swamp Rat, etc. I'm sure they're wonderful knives. I just can't make myself pay the price. I'm sure there are other great knives out there at a cheaper price. I just don't own any of them.

Ooops edit... sorry.. lack of coffee this morning. Least expensive that I would risk my life on. What I have handled... Bushman. My .02
