Lemons: BK-16 Mod Discussion and Ideas : Completed Photo's

I've been super busy the last couple of weeks and haven't had time to finish the 16 Bushcrafter yet, But I did get out and do some work on her yesterday and today. Think I have the blade how I want it. I went to cut the Scales and my bandsaw blade just isn't cutting it. lol. I thought I was gonna be able to cut and epoxy the scales on today but looks like Im gonna have to buy a new blade. Hopefully I will still have some time later today to get a new blade and get the scales and liners cut and epoxied on.

Here is a pic of the Bushcrafter.

If all goes well, she will be completed in the next few days.

Just wanted to share a couple of tricks that I'm not sure I've mentioned yet. I learned real quick to double side tape the g10 liners together and make only one cut for all of them. I use woodworkers tape when they are in rectangle form and cut, shape, and drill all the holes at once. So much easier than cutting each liner by itself like I did the first time. This is the third time I've taped them and is the only way I will do it from now on.

Here a a couple of pics of them almost all the way shaped before I epoxied them.

After I shaped the back end the way I wanted, I took them apart and sanded each side with 80 grit then cleaned with alcohol.

I epoxied her up, let her cure, and have cleaned up the edges.

Hopefully I can get some more shaping done tonight.

Got her shaped up tonight. Still have a littler more to take off in a few spots and do some clean up and she will be done.

I think the black and green liners came out nice. She's gonna look amazing once I finish the sanding then apply the finish.

Here are a few pics of how she looks now.

 Very nice, I like! another sweet mod Dex.

Thanks! I am very pleased with this one.

How do you get the finger grove in the front of the handle? That looks really comfortable

Are you referring to the thumb divot? I used a small drum sander attachment on my drill press to get the basic shape, then I smoothed it out and final shaped it with sandpaper by hand.

Dex ya never cease to amaze me. Very Nice!

Thanks man!

Indeed, the black and green liners bring the wood to a whole new dimension, looks amazing dex

Thanks Denny! I was hoping when I ordered the Foliage Green G-10 that it would look how I pictured it in my head and thankfully it came out exactly how I wanted.

Another winner Dex, looks awesome.

Thank you Warrior!

OK....... pretty much finished shaping her the way I want. Still have to put an edge on the blade itself and maybe sand out a couple of grind marks, some from Ka-bar and a few small ones from me. But I may just leave them cause I want her to look like she needs to be used. If she is to perfect, I will never be able to take her out to the woods.

I also need to pick up some new finish, I keep forgetting. But I took a few pics outside today before It started to rain.

I am really liking how she feels in the hand. She is a lot thicker than the other two In this thread.

I am really liking the Blade shape as well! Think I may do another one very similar and with a saber 16.

Gonna post up some more pics in a few days or whenever I get the finish applied.

This has been an awesome project. Lot's more work than I imagined getting all three of these done. Haha.....

I think I may do a couple more 16's...... I still want that Wharnie.

Enjoy Guys....... :D

Hey Dex, This is one super duper thread. I like the way you recontoured the plunge line toward the scales. Excellent choice of wood again.

Once again, looks killer man.

Thanks again Warrior!!

Hey Dex, This is one super duper thread. I like the way you recontoured the plunge line toward the scales. Excellent choice of wood again.

Thank you Hawkhead! And that re-contour was lots of work with a diamond file but well worth it in my opinion. Makes the look of the knife flow a lot better. And thanks man, I love Koa, First time I ever used Koa was when I built an electric guitar back in 2002, Loved it ever since. Gonna look a lot better once the pores of the wood are filled when I apply the finish.

Absolutely top-notch, Dex. I love this thread, and you're turning all of those lemons into some sweet, sweet lemonade.

Thank you sir! To bad I'm about out of Lemons! lol

Another stunning 16, Dex. Loving the copper pins, whole thread, and all the great ideas.

Thanks TJ! Gonna do a little something to the copper later but it sure does look great against the Koa, And not to mention a lot easier to sand and shape than the Stainless.

And this thread did turn out awesome. Lot's of great input from all you guys as well and really got me to step up my skill level.

Another great looking 16. You should post up a group shot when your all done. Would be an impressive grouping...
