Lemons: BK-16 Mod Discussion and Ideas : Completed Photo's

On the clip the only other thing to consider would be how you would want to swedge it. Either sharpened, unsharpened, crowned (rounded) or flat. I kinda like the crowned idea cause you really dont see it much anymore, but I think it gives you some good function while being classy. Although a flat clip would be a lot easier to pull off. It would again break down into your preference and how you see this knife after its all done, with classic traditional stylings, modern tactical look, or a mix of modern materials with a traditional flair.

Options options options.

Yes I love the crowned spines. I have done it to lots of my knives. Very elegant looking and comfortable.

Also, I'm thinking the back end of the handle should be rounded off to make it a little shorter. I think it should have permanent scales either stabilized wood or micarta and stainless or brass pins. I also have some ideas with using homemade micarta with no pins as well. Might try that on one of them. So many options.

I need to pick up some paint stripper so I can strip them this weekend. I don't think we should etch the logos? Might look funny if the spine is brought down on some of them?

Maybe after I'm done shaping the blades, I'll make just a BK&T logo for one side and name each one on the other.
One will be "The Lemonade" for sure. Maybe just etch an image of a lemon on it. haha

I think I might wanna try some of those stabilized corncobs or pinecones on one of these. Hell, maybe all of them. Could be really cool.

Your thoughts and Ideas?

I was messing with the design last night thinking the same thing about dropping the handle down a bit, but couldnt get it to look right. Moral of the story, its hard to make better what Ethan and Toooj spent so long trying to perfect. The only think I wish I could fix would be making the neck of the handle a little thicker for more comfort. All that being said, I really like the profile you put on your saber 16 handle, and I think something like that would actually work really well with this design. I just couldnt pull it off right on the computer. Essentially giving the handle more of a downward cant without reducing length.

As far as scales go I think just about anything would look good, and probably perm attached so that you can contour everything to your liking. Definitely needs a custom logo

on the modified wharncliffe front, and that slight curve upward - it is a similar profile to the sebenza insingo

I've got one, love it. in reality, the cutting edge itself isn't really all THAT different from a classic drop point, just a little less belly at the end. with less accidental pokings and a beefier tip. it's actually one of my favorite cutters/slicers.

I snagged a pic from a recent for sale thread b/c I'm at work and can't upload one of my own. hope that's ok.

pshhhh. complicated? the man's a beckerhead. we all pee champagne and crap diamonds. or was it the other way around? I can't remember. too much champagne. I don't remember where I got it, but I've got lots. bacon flavored.

yeah, I think full auto folder, battery powered soldering iron and an electric screwdriver attached. make it happen. take pictures.

why not make a folder?

A Becker Folder is what all us Beckerheads have been longing for!!

Trust me, I've got some skills, but at this moment a folder is even out of my range. I would not do it justice.
I am a lot better at the fixed blade mods and really that's all I carry anymore ever since I started using Beckers.

Maybe at a later date I will be able to do something like that, but at the moment it's not something I'm willing to do. haha :D:D

Oh, there have been two or three guys here make a BK&T folder! More power to them!

I do like the looks of that blade shape! It's a nice gradual curve. Nice.

So, this is what I was thinking. The darkened part are the original blade "negative". Mind you, I'm not an artist and I don't take good pictures with my phone either. So without further ado, here we go.

Drop the point down more in line with the middle of the of the blade (in the picture it may not be exactly the middle but yeah) and then take out the ricasso allowing you to come up much farther towards the blade. I was actually thinking of taking it right up to the sharpening notch.

I was thinking a nice sharpened swedge would be a great look with your design.

I like the shape of that Insigno - that's similar to the shape I've been working on, but I don't have time to post pics or computer drawings. Got a 40" TV I've gotta fit into a 39" cabinet...levers and pulleys and full motion mounts, oh my! Custom woodwork and such; trying to keep SWMBO happy - like that's even possible!
Seriously, though, I like a lot of the stuff I've seen so far; why not go with something really different like the wharnie/sheepsfoot/Insigno shape? I do really like the long clip though....and Dex, if you're gonna use wood for scales, lemme know - I've got a few options and I can certainly pass some along for this project. Curly maple, cherry, walnut, sapele, sipo, purpleheart & mahogany to name a few. PM or email me.

What's up guys? Sketched out a few designs last night and this morning. Got my scanner working so I was able to get a decent pic.
Still playing around with the butt end of the handles and trying to get my blade lines and curves right. Man it's so much harder than it looks to draw this stuff out. lol

Thanks Granite! I may take you up on that indeed, I love some curly maple!!!

I like lemonade.

I sent crimsonfalcon some wood, this is the curly maple (I think, unless he used some he already had) posted from another thread:

Yeah, that curly maple is the STUFF. If you have a ready supply of that, let me know. I'd be happy to buy some more from you. The rest of the board that set of scales comes from is going on that short sword I'm working on, I think. Would look great on one of these too.

Nice drawings.
I'd recommend not curving the back of the edge on the modified wharnie because it will make it difficult to use against flat surfaces. Also, the edge will get very thick there because you'll be moving up the primary bevel.

I like curly maple. It's not super tough though, and it can move a good bit after you shape it if it's not stabilized.

how about laying back the drop a bit more, add a top swedge and a recurve at the edge going towards the handle? don't have a photo right now, but it would be similar to a muela commando. the bottom guard can follow the curve of the recurve in one flowing sweep, leaving a "talon" a la swamp rat guards.
