Let’s see those forum knives

Try it first before the grinder, or trade it if your not happy.
You'll be pleased to see a trade thread link in my signature line then;)

Only flaw I’ve found is the spring on the small blade is recessed on the back and leaves a gap. Kind of disappointed to see this on a high profile forum knife, it’s only cosmetic though. Overall I’m very pleased!

Before you go that route, you might want to consider sending it back to Buck. A few of the folks in the Traditional Subforum have also had some problems and Caleb Cooper, Special Projects Manager at Buck, recommended returning it for a replacement. See Post #1363 on page 69 of this link:

Quoted from that link:
"Looks to me like you received something not quite up to our standards.
If you would like you can send it back in to Buck to my attention and I can get it replaced for you.

Just for general information on the edge thickness, these blades are spec'd to finish the fabrication process at .020"-.025"
I just measured one on my desk and its right at .020" either one made it out with a thicker grind, or the operator that edged the knife took a little too much off when profiling.

As for the Elk, it is a natural product. We do our best to get the most character, while also matching side to side."

Got mine today, pretty pleased overall:). Aside from a pretty decent gap under the end of one of the covers (by thumb in first pic) I have no other f&f issues but the covers are REALLY slim. I did get some pretty thick blades too (Main-.035"bte, sheeps-.025"bte).

I'm kinda torn at this point though...do I take it to the grinder (losing the cool Bos etch) andmake it a user, or maybe try to trade for aninteresting Whittler?

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I can never open the IMG's? It always opens a new tab but with an error code. I even shut my ad blockers off... :(:(

OK...Got it working....:D:D:D:D I would send it to Buck and have them fix that....

Somehow I doubt Buck is going to re-grind and re-etch my blades, and replace the covers just for that gap.

Probably not, but they will most likely replace the whole knife since I am sure that some extras were made. And if you don't believe that Buck will address the issue, and I say this with all due respect to you, then you don't know Buck's Customer Service very well.

We can fix that gap for you. At this point we can't fix the blade thickness issue. Contact me and we will get you taken care of...

Those are really nice knives! Beautiful! I wanted to get one and was waiting to hear how to order but all summer was crazy busy and missed it. That is a dream knife for me. Maybe sometime soon Buck will have a custom build for the 301. That would be sweet!

Nice job on my two. Small gap on one, but overall both are excellent, they match and they are sharp. The full flat grind looks fine to me with the edge they put on it.

This 2 blade combination covers what I need to cut most days so it will be carried. It's the fancy two gun rig to my single blade 302 Solitaire that I love so much.:thumbsup:

I'll work on pics...

Nice knives. Is there a possibility of having the flat grind and the long pull on production folders?

I'm pleased with the knife, but the stag on both of mine is less than desirable. Remember, we voted on and were supposed to get dark knobbly elk on this run, and many if not most of what has been posted were pretty good with a fair number of excellent examples of that product.

One of mine is quite smooth & pale, and I'm OK with it, just not what I expected or wanted, but in addition has a scale pin that is obviously out-of-place. The other knife has pretty good knobbly stag, isn't particularly dark which is OK, but it has an area that was damaged somehow either when the antler was growing or after it was shed, and to me looks like rodents have been gnawing on it and I find it very distracting.

Both knives had pretty good action with the sheepsfoot/coping blade being quite stiff to open, but is breaking in with use. Both came shaving sharp out-of-the-box.

Sooo, short story long, I could have been happier with my examples for those reasons, but I do like the knife.

We can fix that up for you. Get you a better elk and get that rivet fixed. The 'mice gnawing' look is like likely from the elk rubbing the antler on the trees before shedding..
