Let’s talk hunting knives. (Traditional)

Good luck
Thanks. Got one last year. It's only my youngest son and I. He's still working on his wing shooting skills. Two years ago we saw mostly sandhill cranes which aren't legal game is Wisconsin. The last morning, we had several trumpeter swans fly right in front of us about 10 yards out and at about eye level. Can't shoot them either bit they are beautiful birds. Still, its a good time.

Swans and cranes are awesome birds.

The H-15 handle just fits me.
Imperial's Schrade H-15. It happens to be my cleanest one, with the best-surviving sheath ("genuine buffalo hide").

This Buck 121 Fisherman (early 1980's) is as much a hunting knife as a fishing knife. The late Fisherman (later renamed the Guide) is of thicker blade construction and very similar to a 105 Pathfinder in design and feel. I use it for a cut bait knife and yesterday it also cut a treble out of a badly foul-hooked Lizard Fish. I keep an older 121 (four spacer) for filet knife use, but the newer ones are really general purpose hunting and outdoor knives. OH

The Buck 117 hasn’t been around long enough to have much hunting lore written about it yet. Sort of a scaled down Buck 119 (or a scaled up Buck 102), it has a very handy size. I bought one when it first came out, but didn’t use it until after a move five years ago when I misplaced my box of Buck 118’s. Located the 117, still NIB, and took it deer hunting with me. It turned out to be a great whitetail knife, almost as good as the 118 (still prefer the 118 due to more blade belly). OH

I used a Buck 103 on almost 20 deer, and a fair number of furbearers, with complete satisfaction. The 103 is a deep bellied drop point that really has no point. This makes it perfect for skinning. For smaller work of course I used a smaller knife, like a Buck 110-clone that I picked up cheap.

A Buck 103 for reference...I figure everyone knows the 110.

I used the Buck Sportsman 115 set, with the 103 and 118, that I put together, after finding the proper sheath.
