Let’s talk hunting knives. (Traditional)

Just going back through looking at the pictures in the thread again - getting close enough to an antelope to kill it with a levergun is no small feat - nice work! OH
My friend Ben there is a very experienced hunter. I shall pass on the kind words. Interestingly, that antelope provided handles for a knife for each of his grandkids:

Wow, your friend Ben has some fortunate grandkids! We have our first, a grandson, coming in two weeks (in our late 60's, we're beside ourselves as we never thought this would happen). I've been thinking about all kinds of outdoorsman things I want him to have! OH

About a decade ago I made my own "Sharpfinger" from a 440C blank and some bookmatched walnut. Breasted a couple of ducks with it, but nothing larger.

The factory fixed blade that best fits my hand is the Schrade 172UH, with the finger notches. It just melts into my hand, and the Staglon is nice and grippy, too!

I bought this lionSTEEL folder with the hopes of using it as a caper if I ever shot "the big one." So far I haven't. 😩

Schrade USA 165OT, this one I keep in the truck toolbox as an extra. Picture is of me "helping" a buddy clean a deer after he said "forgot my knife!" If he wasn't my old OPS officer (that I think the world of) I would have let him clean it with a hacksaw blade I had in the toolbox. OH

Clean, pleasing lines on that Skinner; the perfect size, too.

Good luck on your hunt 🍻
