Course a guy could go out hunting for days and then there is a bear in a tree by the house. He spent all day eating acorns:

Neat photos, thank you. I'm curious about the rifle in the first photo - .338MX or .308MX? The wide open places seem like a good place for either cartridge.

I was up north last year and was looking in my late trapping buddies knives kicking around his shack.i was looking for the go to skinning knife.it was a royal alebrt butter knife with an ivory or something close handle.it was sharpend razor sharp except the round end.that had skinned thousands of fur and moose.

That's a very different Mora kniv. Cool.
My least typical Mora was made by Frost's.

That is a different frost than the frost that does the cheap knives isn't it. I was trying to figure out the age of mine.ive had it for 40+ years and the old guy who gave it to me never said.i know they used to sell them at the trapper tables in the past.it was the only place besides the Hudson bay.but the bay would bye a bunch with their mora fillet knife orders.it was mora or old timer.not alot of bucks came through that I remember.

Interesting selection.
My favorite Old Timer:

Yup, this Frost's was a manufacturer in Mora, Sweden, which I think merged with KJ Erickson to form what is now just Mora.

Frost of Pakistan is unrelated to Sweden, as far as I know.

Same family, all descendents of Jim.
Jim had inexpensive Frost knives made in Japan (when Japan's reputation was much worse than Pakistan's is now) and India, then China. Not sure if Jim went to Pakistan for manufacturing,or if thatwas a son or grandson.
Jim did contract some high quality knives, made in USA, Germany, England, and I believe France and Italy, over the years, but the Frost company has always been mostly known for low quality "gas station" knife shaped objects.
No way to prove it, but they were probably responsible for the no name cheap "Made in Japan" and "Made in India" gas station knives in the 50's to 70's. (when Japan's rep was below Pakistan's and India's rep today ... FAR, FAR below.... )

Ya I read that when was trying to date my mora.interesting that one frost if I believe used the worn out and another bought new equipment.but ya interesting read on the kj erickson history.

Went on a early morning squirrel hunt today in the north Georgia hills. First morning this year that it’s felt like fall.

It’s been a while since I’ve had the opportunity to walk through the woods with my single shot, break open 12 gauge and a Case muskrat.

That’s the wonderful thing about squirrel hunting, not much equipment necessary. A pocket full of shells, a pocket knife and a lightweight shotgun can fill the pot up with delicious tree rats.

Ended up only getting 2, not as productive as the other weekend when we got 7 but it was a beautiful morning.

The thin stainless blades on the muskrat makes quick work on the little critters with a notoriously tough hide. Within 5 minutes they were cleaned and put up.

Mornings like this are nice when you can stop and appreciate Gods grace, simple tools and changing leaves rustling in the wind.
